Gabe Ugliano is a minor antagonist from the Percy Jackson novel The Lightning Thief and its film adaptation. He is portrayed in the film by Joe Pantoliano.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- He is the laziest and lowliest definition of a human being who cannot even hold a job. He treats Sally as nothing more than a housemaid and has her fetch cans of beer for him, even slapping her on the butt like she's some kind of prostitute.
- He is arrogant, and hates being called out on such disgusting behavior by anyone, especially Percy, who he reminds that this is his house, and that Percy should show him some respect though he does not deserve any.
- He has no control over his temper. When Percy calls him a bald-headed freak for talking about Sally like she's nothing more than a servant to him and his friends, he flips out and tries to attack Percy before Grover saves him.
- When confronted by the police on the news, he lies that Percy started drinking and kidnapped his mother.
- After Sally kicks him out of the house, he is still too lazy to move anything on his own and resorts to grabbing a beer to recover from the stress.
- Even though he doesn't live at the house anymore, he still calls himself the king of the castle, which makes zero sense.
- He is very stupid and ignores the notice that Percy left on the fridge not to open the door, which contains Medusa's severed head and leads to his demise.
- He has no charming, comical, respectable or sympathetic traits and is played as the ideal scum of the Earth.
Trivia[]
- Only the book version and the film version count as Hate Sink. His depiction in the TV show is not a Hate Sink due to that version being far too comedic and pathetic to count. He doesn't seem to abuse Sally as much as just talk rudely to her and she can speak out against him.
