Gonzo Tarukane is one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside Great King Enma) of the Yu Yu Hakusho franchise. He was a member and a founder (English version only) of the criminal organization called Black Book Club.
In the Japanese version, he was voiced by Kenichi Ogata. In the English dub, he was voiced by Brad Jackson.
What Makes Him a Hate Sinks?[]
- He kidnappes the ice apparition Yukina and forces her to cry pearl tears by torturing her both mentally and physically, dispite already being filthy rich, as well as Yukina herself being very kind-hearted and polite person.
- He kills a guard who tried to rescue Yukina to teach her a lesson. What's even worse, the guard had already a sister and his sacrifice ended up in vain.
- After his torturing methods stopped working, he hired the Toguro brothers, who killed Yukina's beloved birds.
- Hoping to intimidate Younger Toguro, Tarukane challenged him to take on the beast Helen bare-handed, certain that such a feat can't be done. After the Helen's death, he shows no remorse over it, laughing at Toguro's apologies for killing her, only seeing more opportunities in Toguro's powers.
- After seeing Yusuke and his friends coming to his mansion to save Yukina, he made a bet with the other Black Book Club members who would win, Yusuke or his bodyguards, knowing fully well that he can scam them thanks to Younger Toguro's power.
- During the fight between Toguro brothers and Yusuke's friends, he encourages Younger Toguro to kill the slowly and painfully, and sadistically taunts Yukina by saying they will suffer the same fate as the guard that tried to save her, saying that it's her fault.
- After being rightfully called out a monster by Kuwabara and being threatened by, he loughs it of saying that he is to expensive and order Toguro's to kill him.
- After losing all of his money to Sakyo because of the Toguro brothers' defeat, he dishonorably tried to escape with the money he owed, and rebuild his fortune at the cost of Yukina.
- He patheticly tries bargaining with Hei, offering him Yukina's precious tears, saying that she is a broad, not even knowing that they are both siblings.
- In the Chapter Black Saga, it's reveled the Black Book Club enslaved, sold and tortured demons on their ritualistic parties called The Feasts of Human Vices. In the English dub, Tarukane is there founder, making him responsible for all of there atrocities, presumably only doing this out of pure greed.
- One member in the shadows shown in the flashback related to those events even resembles Tarukane, implying that he also personally took a part in those parties out of pure sadistic enjoyment.
- The club actions coused than spirit detective Sensui to go insane and kill a lot of members at the party and made him hate all of the humanity, along with trying to destroy all of it.
- His downfall, getting beaten by Hiei and beheaded by Younger Toguro are all played for satisfaction.
