Goober Man is a minor antagonist in Rugrats, appearing in "Big Showdown". He is an unnamed man who plays Goober the Gopher, a children's character.
He was voiced by Mark Silverman.
What makes him a Hate Sink?[]
- Unlike the kind character he portrays himself to be, he is actually pretty mean.
- When Didi brings Tommy to him, he acts nice at first and offers a Goober the Gopher doll to Tommy. However, when Tommy (who prefers Reptar) holds up his Reptar doll and doesn't take the Goober doll, the man gets mad and forcefully yanks the Reptar doll away and replaces it with the Goober doll, causing Tommy to cry, which the man shows no concern over. This was very mean and totally uncalled for.
- If he really wanted to give Tommy the Goober doll, he could have just placed it in his stroller or given it to Didi to give to Tommy later. He doesn't even give the Reptar doll to Didi to return to Tommy later, instead taking it away, which is straight-up theft. Even Dil and Chuckie, who prefer Goober over Reptar, are visibly upset seeing this.
- When he sees a co-worker dressed as Reptar eating a sandwich that apparently belonged to the Goober Man, he demands it back while threatening to report him to the union. Granted, he was right to be upset about his co-worker eating his lunch, but there is no indication that he knew the sandwich belonged to him, and he didn't need to immediately threaten him.
- When the co-worker mockingly says he will return the sandwich if he gives him a hug (Goober the Gopher's catchphrase is "Can I have a hug?"), instead of either just doing so and getting it over with or reporting him to the union like he initially said he would, the man straight up attacks his co-worker and starts a fight, which is incredibly immature of an adult man like him, not to mention stupid as it could lead to both of them getting fired. Granted, the co-worker dressed as Reptar was being kind of a jerk himself, but that doesn't justify the man's reaction.
- During the fight, he throws few of the Goober dolls and bites the co-worker that which Betty calls out as a dirty move.
- After he loses the fight and the man dressed as Reptar saves Tommy and Chuckie when they get launched from a table, everyone boos the Goober Man after he attempts to do the same actions with his costume torn apart.
- Overall, he's a mean, immature and shortsighted man with no redeeming features.
