Gordon Willey is the human antagonist of Goosebumps Slappyworld #19, Friiight Night. He is a cruel kid in Mrs. Waxman's class at the school of Adams Prep in Great Newton, Massachusetts.
What makes him a Hate Sink?[]
- He falsely befriends protagonist Kelly Crosby, only to betray him later.
- After he introduces Kelly to Skwerm, the school's basement monster, and reveals to Kelly that, in this book's universe, almost every school in the state of Massachusetts has a monster living in the basement to serve as the school's mascot, and every year, there is a state wide school event called Friiight Night where the monsters leave the basements to attend party's upstairs with the human students and school staff and the monster takes one of the student's at its school to serve as its date at the party, and that there is a 10% state margin where the monster kills its date, Kelly, sensing that Skwerm doesn't like him, asks if there is any way he can get on Skwerm's good side since, as the newest student and transferring from a different school mid-term, he is likely to perform the worst academically and thus be forced to be the date (the monster's dates being students forced into the roles as punishment for being the lowest ranked students in their respective schools). Gordon lies to Kelly that he can get on Skwerm's good side if he brings him eggs to eat. This turns out to be a cruel trick; Skwerm is actually allergic to eggs, so this makes him even angrier with Kelly. In other words, as a sick joke, Gordon tricks Kelly into setting off Skwerm's allergies so that Skwerm will be even more resentful of Kelly and more likely to kill him if he ends up as his date. He does this knowing that there is a good chance Kelly will be forced to be the date due to transferring mid-term.
- When Kelly is indeed declared Skwerm's date for Friiight Night, Gordon, knowing Kelly is now likely to end up dead because of the trick he pulled on him, mockingly gives Kelly a thumbs up at the cafeteria during lunch.
- He barges into Kelly's home uninvited and starts drinking one of the soda's in his fridge without permission.
- He asks Charlene (Kelly's friend from Little Hills Village, New Hampshire) if she has come to see Kelly be eaten by Skwerm, right as Kelly is standing there, which is incredibly tasteless.
- He is described as having an ugly snicker of a laugh, highlighting how he is meant to be disliked.
- He is subject to an appropriately humiliating act of karma when Kelly gets Buurph, the monster of a rival school, to ingest him and nearly suffocate him before spitting him out.
- The monsters in the story, while dangerous, are incapable of speech and act as little more than non-sapient beasts. In addition, they are not entirely malicious in nature and are known to do the schools a service by guarding against intruders and keeping the boilers running through the winter. It's mentioned that 90% of the time, they don't hurt anyone. The reader can't exactly call the monsters the villains of the story, so Gordon serves the purpose of providing the story with someone the reader can genuinely dislike.
