Governor Griffon (first name unknown, only assumed to be Grimm) is the main antagonist of the 2004 Rockstar video game Red Dead Revolver. He is the archenemy of the game's protagonist, Red Harlow, orchestrating the killings of his father and mother, slavery of his allies, and is the cause of some of the antagonists' vendetta against the hero characters.
He was voiced by the late Bert Pence.
What makes him a Hate Sink[]
- Due to the Red Dead Revolver universe being separate from the one with Micah Bell and Colonel Favors, he manages to be the most despicable in his own timeline.
- Despite being best friends with Nate Harlow, he willingly sacrificed his family, including the teenager Red, to be spared by Diego. Although one could argue it was a matter of life and death, Griffon didn't even thought twice about it and even smiled when shaking Diego's hand, implying he never truly cared for Nate at all.
- Along with Javier Diego, he runs a slave mine which is contained of innocent outsiders and American soldiers, one of these being the Buffalo Soldier, Red's ally, who was captured and imprisoned twice by Griff.
- He abuses his status as a governor to make the American army work for him, guard prisoners for him and uses them as his personal assassins. Furthermore, he threatens to kill them for failing to kill Red in the last mission, showing his vanity and shows off his status of being above the law.
- Helped the Black Elk Tribe in their war with the Red Wolf Tribe and gave them weapons to fight them. This is because the Black Elks were as greedy as Griffon and would do anything for gold and territorial power.
- As the tyrant of Brimstone, he has done a numerous of terrible deeds and is hated by every person with some common sense, which isn't a lot, actually.
- He blackmails people with threats, or uses bribes to get his way, as evidenced from Sheriff Bartlett's journal, where its stated that if Carnby Peabody wouldn't have sold the bank to Griffon, he'd be put away instantly.
- Despite Sam and Dan being gangsters who made the Brimstone Saloon into a hellhole at night, he refuses to shut it down.
- Hires outlaws, hitmen and goons to deal with those who displease him. He famously tried to get Annie Stoakes to sell her land and ranch over to him, but when she refused, he hired goons and her own displeased ranch hands to kill her and burn down her property.
- Even before deciding to burn the ranch and kill Annie, she was indebted to him through a bank loan, which he kept increasing interests for.
- Killed a barber who nicked him.
- He does not care for his own men, as shown when he ordered Kelley to kill Red, even though Kelley was already injured by Harlow beforehand, while him, Jason and Oswald fled back the mansion.
- In the final standoff with Red, he arrogantly proclaims that he regrets not being involved in the Harlow homestead murders personally, so he could finish Red himself.
