| ~ The Grand High Witch to her followers. |
The Grand High Witch is the Main Antagonist of the 1990 adaptation of The Witches. She's a genocidal witch who was willing to turn every child in the world into mice so that people can kill them.
She is played by Angelica Huston who also voices another Hate Sink, Queen Usurna from Trollhunters.
What Makes Her a Hate Sink?[]
- She intends to rid the world of children, beginning with those in England, by turning them into mice using a formula so they can get killed.
- She is shown to be a sadistic child-murderer and a genocidal psychopath.
- She relishes children's anguish and death as much as one relishes cream and strawberries, all out of her own sadistic enjoyment.
- Although she does not hate human adults like she does children, she still cares little for them, and she doesn't mind if she accidentally kills them, even if she does not mean or wish for it to happen.
- She likes to dispose of children by turning them into animals their parents hated, and have the parents kill their own children by thinking they were pests.
- She almost causes a baby to die.
- She turns two kids into rats.
- She is extremely cruel to animals, mostly frogs, as demonstrated when she keeps some frogs on her hotel suite (regardless the frogs were either normal or people whom she transformed in the past), letting them be on her room one last night before throwing them off the window to be devoured by seagulls the next morning.
- Her lack of care for others is so apparent that even her fellow witches show disgusting faces toward her for the aforementioned lack of care.
- She is a Bad Boss to her fellow witches, as seen when she vaporizes a witch into pure steam because she doubted her plan could actually work.
- She forcibly made Luke take the formula, then when he was dizzy she pushed him off the platform and laughed at his unstableness to walk.
- She rejected to let Susan join them and cruelty called her a stuff work and servant.
- She is also abusive to her fellow witches, as she abandoned them and let them die for all she could care about when were they were transformating into rats and asking her for help.
- Her excuse for her actions is nothing to justify about, instead of searching for the other ways to fix their sense of smell problems toward children, she decided to murder them.
- Her getting turned into a rat and killed is brutal but is ultimately a poetic and satisfying comeuppance for her actions considering all the children she’s transformed into rats.
- She is easily considered, alongside Agatha Trunchbull, as one of Roald Dahl's darkest villains and scarier than many villains appearing in stories for adults, both psychologically and physically.
Trivia[]
- Her and the 1989 movie version of Fleshlumpeater are the only Roald Dahl Hate Sinks so far.
- Her 2020 remake can not count as she's too liked to be a Hate Sink.
