~ A argument between Sam and the Director about Rebecca's work. |
The Director is the overarching antagonist of the indie horror game Amanda the Adventurer.
He is the director of Hameln Entertainment, a company that had performed various tests on Rebecca Colton, the daughter of Sam Colton, as well as the voice actor of Amanda the Adventurer. One of these tests involves her reciting satanic rituals, which he claims is actually meant to train the technology's dynamic voice reaction, even though Rebecca was hesitant to it.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- He is a director (if not the head) of the Hameln Entertainment company, which means that he is largely responsible for how the operation of it is run.
- When news spread around that Sam Colton, the original creator of the show, had gone missing, the Director had ordered his representatives to release a public statement addressing the controversy, stating that Sam had "abandoned" both the company and his daughter in an attempt to avoid questioning on the matter. The statement also claims that Rebecca was so distraught by Sam's disappearance, likely being told by Hameln that Sam "abandoned" her, that all events surrounding her had to be cancelled. The fact that Rebecca was previously adopted by Sam before his disappearance adds onto how heinous and cruel the Director is, ordering employees to make this public statement.
- Following Sam's disappearance, the Director heavily tampered with Sam's original vision of the show, a passion project which he created from the love he had for his adopted daughter, and wanted to share with his community as a celebration for the imagination of children like his daughter.
- He is responsible for many of the risque and disturbing elements found in the show, with many people over on the news claiming that the show had made some of their kids disobedient, and on at least two occasions had reportedly led to the disappearance of a child. The two children who were known to have been affected by the show (Lauren and Jordan) were shown or described to have fallen into a trance-like state while watching the show before mysteriously disappearing.
- One of the secret tapes, where Amanda is forced to go into the butcher shop, implies that Amanda may actually have little to no control over the show itself, but is instead dictated by the Director (or at least some external force created by him) to perform certain actions. She is seen angered that she cannot "stop it", and angrily begs to get out of the butcher shop towards the end of the tape.
- Another one of the secret tapes, which shows surveillance footage of the Hameln Entertainment company, depicts the Director having Rebecca sign a contract, but with Sam entirely absent a year after the controversy, confirming that he is entirely out of the picture. This contract was most likely to keep Rebecca under the company's custody, as the tape then shows her being directed to a heavily guarded, locked room in the complex by a Hameln scientist.
- It is implied that the Director may have been responsible for the disappearance of Sam Colton, as when we last see him, he is confronting the Director when he hears some of his daughter's recording sessions. At the end of the tape, Sam attempts to leave the company with Rebecca. But then following this, he mysteriously went missing, though Rebecca was still with the company following this, as evidenced by the surveillance footage.
- He is a Satanist who made Rebecca, a child, recite rituals that require her to read out the names of various demons (such as Paimon, Balam, and Bael), masking this as her simply reading a few simple words to train the program's voice recognition technology. Rebecca then hears a voice that Sam doesn't sense telling her to do things that she doesn't want to, implying that she's being possessed. Through this, it is implied that the Director set up much of the program to work off of communication with these demons, requiring Rebecca to be possessed by one of them to play the Amanda character in the show.
- The Director also shows off his shady and combative personality in this scene, as when Sam shows concern over the phrases that the Director is making his daughter read, he rudely tells Sam to "take a walk for a few minutes", along with telling him the aforementioned half-truth of the recording's nature.
- The credits state that the show had a Neurological officer, which indicates he had his men perform brain surgery on the now orphaned Rebecca.
