Hantengu (In Japanese: 半天狗, Hantengu) is a major antagonist in the 2019 Shonen manga/anime series, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. being a member of Twelve Kizuki as the former Upper Rank Four. He is the main antagonist of the Swordsmith Village Arc and its third season adaptation, while his clones serves as the major antagonists.
He was voiced by Toshio Furukawa as his main body, Yuichiro Umehara as Sekido, Kaito Ishikawa as Karaku, Soma Saito as Aizetsu, Shunsuke Takeuchi as Urogi, and Koichi Yamadera as Zohakuten in the Japanese version. He was also played by Christopher Corey Smith in the dubbed version, who also portrayed Thales and Makoto Kibune.
What Makes Him a Hate sink?[]
- As a human being, he was a pathological liar since childhood, with a twisted mind that distorts facts and interpretations to perpetually consider himself the victim and the people around him as evildoers.
- When he became a old man, he pretended to be blind in order to steal the property of a benefactor and when a real blind man found out about his theft, he murdered the blind man. And it is said he committed theft and murder in other towns before. The exact number is unknown, but it can be assumed to be a lot.
- He married several times and had children, but falsely believed that he was being mistreated due to his hypocrisy and mercilessly killed his wives and children in ''retaliation'' for petty reasons.
- After being turned into a demon by Muzan, he escaped from prison and killed the magistrate who rightfully sentenced him to death for his crimes.
- As a member of the Twelve Kizuki, holding the position of Upper Rank Four he has likely eaten hundreds of people before the story started.
- Under Muzan's orders, he and Gyokko attacked the blacksmith village with intent on destroying the village and killing everyone.
- He summoned his clones to kill Tanjiro, Nezuko, Muichiro, Genya, and Mitsuri.
- He continues to consider himself a "virtuous weakling" and has no regrets or remorse for his evil deeds, which made Tanjiro outraged by his victim playing behavior, and he is also one of the few Demons that, along with Muzan, made Tanjiro furious.
- After losing his head, he attempted to kill and devour three swordsmiths in order to regenerate himself. This made matters worse, since Nezuko was caught in the sunlight, which was hurting her severely. This caused Tanjiro to panic since he couldn't decide whether to stop Hantengu from killing the swordsmiths or to protect Nezuko from the sunlight.
- Even after his death, Hantengu's eyes showed Muzan of Nezuko overcoming sunlight, which prompted Muzan to raid the Demon Slayer Corps which makes him responsible for the numerous deaths caused by Muzan and the other Upper Ranks.
- He's notably one of the fewest demons to earn the wrathful rage of Tanjiro, due to his hypocrisy and cowardice, as well for nearly causing Nezuko's death.
