I don't recall Rourke being a three-dimensional character...his crew can be considered that though. Fattubby (talk) 01:33, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
I think a Hate Sink can be funny as long as they’re still taken seriously by the narrative. Scar can be funny for example. Fattubby (talk) 01:58, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
I think being a Hate Sink and being well-written can overlap….I don’t find the Joker likable but I find him to be well written nevertheless. Fattubby (talk) 01:59, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
Some villains that I feel don't qualify[]
Louis Bloom from Nightcrawler: Despite being written to be evil, he has too many entertaining qualities to qualify.
Syndrome: Despite being exceptionally heinous, he has way too many "Evil Is Cool" and Laughable moments.
Carnage (Sony's Marvel Universe): While vile and sadistic, he was written to be an "Evil Is Cool" villain.
I think we should add Cersei Lannister to the disallowed page[]
I think that Cersei Lannister (both the book and the TV show version of the character) should have an entry on the disallowed page. The reason for this is because she is widely despised by large portions of the fandom (since she is one of the main antagonists of the franchise and because of her arrogant attitude and her snobish and spiteful personality). Also, on Villains wiki I once saw a comment from Valkerone in which he thinks that Cersei is a Hate Sink.
However, despite this, Cersei is obviously not written to be a Hate Sink. She has way too many redeeming qualities and moments where she is played for sympathy (on the TV show she even gets an "Alas, Poor Villain" death scene) and the book version has a pretty decent Freudian which explains her negative qualities and in both versions she is meant to be seen as tragic and sympathetic to an extent.
You can read more about her redeeming qualities and preventions on the Inconsistently Heinous wiki:
Here is the page for her book version.
Here is the page for her show version.
So, I think we should add her just in case someone who hates her but is not familliar with the criteria for the Hate Sink trope decides to add a page for her here.
So, here is my suggested entry for her:
Cersei Lannister: Despite being hated by large portions of the fandom, she has too many redeeming and sympathetic qualities to count and she is written to be seen as three-dimensional and tragic.
I think we should add Rex Dangervest to the disallowed page[]
Not only he is tragic and redeemed but he is way too badass to be hated by anyone in this world.
Why Grimmel the Grisly does not qualify[]
His "Evil Is Cool" moments outweigh how heinous he is and has some laughable moments as well.
Why SMG0 doesn’t qualify[]
While what he did to Axol was awful and he is easily the worst SMG4 villain ever, he has way too many “evil is cool” moments.
-RandomUser69420
Why PAL from The Mitchells vs. The Machines Doesn't Qualify[]
She has too many Laughably Evil moments to qualify, as heinous as her actions were.
-Oscarsfan2004
Unapproved villains[]
- Enmu: His crimes are very vile and he committed mind-rape, but, but he has too many "Evil Is Cool" Moments.
- Mo Tae Gu: Although his crime is very vile, He has too many Evil Is Cool moments and also his actor Kim Jae-wook made him such a cool villain.
- Lee Na-yeon: Although her actions are very despicable, she is killed by Gwi-nam while attempting to redeemed herself.
- Flect Turn: It is true that he intends to cause a genocide towards quirk users, but he is written as a tragic, three-dimensional villain.
- Hwang Kyung-il: : While he seems to count in the series alone due to being a Petty misogynistic snuff filmer, but whether he's a Hate Sink or not depends on the interpretation of the fan/audience members, not the creators and writers of Voice, the Word of God.
Disapproved Hate Sinks[]
Here's the list why several Hate Sinks cannot qualify because of any different reasons:
- King Orange: Despite being abusive to Purple and a Bad Boss to Piglin Brutes, King was added in "The Ultimate Weapon" into another badass with several awesome traits and stands out to be the perfect foil to the Second Coming. Even fans agree to like him due to having similar reasons with the Dark Lord and the Witch. He was also given by his tragic backstory and eventually redeemed himself in the season finale "The King".
- The Crusader: Just because Hatred is pure shock value doesn't intentionally mean that he is a Hate Sink, he was referred by the developers as "The Hero" in the internal game files.
- Simon Laurent: Another Near Pure Evil villain who was intentionally created to be seen as tragic and three-dimensional by Word of God (Owen Dennis), despite for everything he's done to Tuba, Hazel and even his former friend Grace, also, although it was partially cathartic, his death was meant to be seen as tragedy by the writers.
- Frill: Despite murdering Azusu, Acca's wife, out of jealousy and inflicting young girls, including Acca's daughter Himari, into suicide, she is way too affable to qualify and was given her questionable moral agency as an A.I. Meanwhile, one of her creations, Hyphen, is an only example of an intentional Hate Sink.
Since William Afton was recently disqualified...[]
Despite his crimes being truly heinous to the point he did qualify here, he was later deemed too Enigmatic and Evil Is Cool to quality.
These characters should be disallowed[]
- Enmu: Despite committing mind rape, he still has many "Evil is Cool" moments.
- Mo Tae Gu: He has too many "Evil is Cool" moments, despite being a vile and sadistic serial killer, and was written to be viewed as a tragic and three-dimensional villain.
- Hwang Kyung-il: Despite being detestable enough, he was written to be viewed as a tragic, three-dimensional villain.
Why Chuck McGill doesn't qualify[]
- Chuck McGill: While he is a major asshole towards Jimmy and utterly hypocritical out of nothing but pure envy, he's meant to be three-dimensional, is a tragic scapegoat, and both fans and in-universe characters agree that, for all his faults, he was right when predicting that .
A potential reason Emilia Lud(o)well may not have a chance.[]
While she did seem to meet the criteria for being a Hate Sink, she redeems herself later on as first shown with her taking a blast of fire aimed at Anos's mother despite attempting to murder her previously. Her redemption is further cemented by her taking steps to make amends for the things she did as a pure blood demon prior to her permanent transformation into a half-demon. PokemonMasterH (talk) 19:19, 6 July 2022 (UTC)
Two villains that aren't hate sinks.[]
- Merraid Oarburgh: Despite her awful actions and being one of the worst LGBT representations, there were some implications that she was meant to be sympathetic, suffering the same controversial situation as Monty de la Cruz.
- Number 6: While what he did to Kazuho was horrible, his actions are overshadowed by his laughable moments and has an Evil is Cool vibe.
Vecna is no hate sink[]
Vecna is heinous and evil but he has too many evil is cool moments and is well liked by the fandom especially with Jamie Campbell Bower's acting. He was also approved as a tragic villain.
Some characters that can't be Hate Sinks due to Words of God[]
- Eobard Thawne (Arrowverse): Quoted directly from his page on the Pure Evil Wiki: Despite being Pure Evil, Eobard Thawne is described by his actor Matt Letscher as a humane tragic character who did admire the Flash before being psychologically breaking himself upon finding out that he was fated to become his idol's archenemy, given that his main desire had been to be loved by society in a similar way, hinting that possibly his parents didn't show him much affection.
- Martin Keamy: Also quoted from his page on the Pure Evil Wiki: Despite being Pure Evil, Martin Keamy was considered by his actor Kevin Durand as a soldier who just came to the island to kill the protagonists under the orders of Charles Widmore in order to avoid his family from being threatened by Widmore.
This franchise should be disallowed[]
- Shokugeki no Soma/Food Wars: Most former villains have redeemed themselves by the end of the series, while the ones that haven't are minor characters that did not show significant traits of a Hate Sink, and thus, none of the characters can qualify.
Why Malcolm Graham doesn't count.[]
Malcolm Graham: Despite threatening to kill a child, Graham has way too many Evil is cool moments to qualify as a Hate Sink. He was also written to be a tragic and three-dimensional character because he explicitly talks about his life in Hell in one episode. ElioMusk28 (talk) 07:25, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
Lucas Baker[]
- I seem to recall Burgermeister Meisterburger being added despite having many comedic moments. Moldyfridge (talk) 03:43, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
Tom and Jerry franchise should be disallowed[]
- The Tom & Jerry franchise should be disallowed from this wiki because the series of cartoons exist purely to entertain the audience and nothing is meant to be taken seriously. Also, all the characters have laughable moments, so none of the characters can qualify as hate sinks due to being too comedic. LordGoeth (talk) 20:15, 5 March 2023 (UTC)
Crimson-Masked Saiyan should be disallowed[]
Despite being much more heinous compared to the original Goku Black, he lacks the screen time to qualify as a Hate Sink.
Manny Heffley is not a Hate Sink[]
While he almost froze his entire family to death, he still saved an RV from falling into the river, meaning he does have 1 heroic deed.
Why C.E.O from Tabbykitth's Tabbyverse will never be a hate sink[]
- I never intended on him being a hate sink ans he was way too many evil-is-cool moments to even be considered a hate sink. Tabbykitth07 21:53, 21 May 2023 (EDT)
General Shepherd (original) should be on this list[]
Despite being infamous and hated by fans for his betrayal, he is a tragic well-intentioned Magnificent Baddie, and Lance Henriksen's charismatic voice acting helps too. Rad777 (talk) 08:45, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
Few suggestions of characters who can't count as Hate Sink[]
- Jill Roberts: She was supposed to return in later sequels when she would become a sympathetic three-dimensional character.
- The Detective (EMESIS BLUE): He is overshadowed by his evil-is-cool factors such as his design (espescially after he's burned) , Chad Payne's voice acting, and most people agreee all the scenes he appears in are among the best of the movie, without including that there are characters way more despicable like Jules Archibald or the Conagher Brothers.
- General Barkov: He was meant to be viewed a sympathetic extremist who only wants the best of his country.
- Vladimir Makarov: Despite being the most evil character in the series, he has far too many evil-is-cool moments and is considered to be one of the greatest villains in Call of Duty.
Barracuda (Finding Nemo)?[]
- Since the page for the Barracuda from Finding Nemo was deleted, shouldn't it be on the list?
Characters I think should be disallowed:[]
- Drew (The Music Freaks): While he is a bully and a possessive control freak, his voice actor (DoshVO) sees him as a complex character.
- Mrs. Mavilda: Even though what she did would usually make her a Hate Sink she redeemed at the end due to being struck by a lightning bolt. Theautisticrebel (talk) 22:14, 27 August 2023 (UTC)
A few series that should be added here[]
- Minecraft (Sandbox) - None of the Hostile Mobs were made to be hated and were just made to attack and kill the Players and other mobs.
- Battle for Dream Island - Almost all of the characters are on & off and the only ones that aren't most likely weren't made by JnJ to be hated.
This wiki will not allow this villain to qualify as a HS[]
- Mammon (Helluva Boss): Too laughably evil to be considered as a Hate Sink.
The Jack Torrence section needs to be written[]
- Instead of "Stephen King version only" it should include all versions of the character, because even Kubrick's version is sympathetic in many scenes. Such as when he gets seduced by Lorraine Massey and in general how the Hotel enables his worse tendencies and how that is also being played for sympathy. The Overlook Hotel is the only true Hate Sink in the film.
Another Fanon MLP character that won't qualify as a Hate Sink[]
- Sherlock Hooves (Justice is Served) - written by StormLuna: After some consideration, even though he is an incompetant coward, his death rather felt undeserved, as he, unlike Princess Luna, actually realizes about his wrongdoings and was even willing to help Minuette/Colgate with outing Luna and the Equestrian Defense Attourney's shady actions, only to get murdered by Minuette/Colgate when he became obsolete.
- The Edit Lord (talk) 09:27, March 9, 2024 (UTC)
This Hoodwinked! character doesn't qualify[]
Hansel and Gretel (Hoodwinked!): Far too comedic to qualify.
Jester (Oz): He has some comedic moment that are not taken seriously.
Kazar from "The Wild": He is labelled as a scapegoat, which immediately disqualifies him.
These three characters cannot qualify as Hate Sinks.[]
- Gaz Membrane: Although she is rather petty with her vengeance, she does have a genuine care for her father and cares for Dib deep down, even being an On & Off Villain, which immediately disqualifies her.
- Ms. Bitters: While she is a nihilistic, misanthropic grouch who hates children, she is a tragic On & Off villain, which immediately disqualifies her from being a Hate Sink.
- Sarah: While she is very annoying, jerkish younger sister who likes to beat the Eds up, she is an Anti-Villain who would later redeem herself, which makes her disqualified as a Hate Sink.
Thomas & Friends?![]
There have pages for characters from Thomas & Friends on this wiki, all of which have been deleted, so should Thomas & Friends be under the Disallowed Franchises section?
Garvey Write (orignal)[]
While he normally could have easily qualified, he is WAY TOO CONTROVERSIAL to be here due to being a disgusting self-insert of the creator Blackout, who was outed for being a groomer, pedo, and doing many other nasty things, which does not fit the criteria.
This character cannot be a Hate Sink[]
Beatrice Horseman: While she is rather cruel and abusive with Bojack Horseman, She has a geniune sad backstory, as when she was just a young girl, his brother Crackerjack died in World War II, causing her mother to become devastaded by the event, and would make her father have her lobotomized, making it so that her mother would tell her to never love anybody as much as she loved Crackerjack.
When she caught the scarlet fever when she was young, her father burned all of her possesions including her doll, and as she was crying, her father warned her to not show too much emotions or she would end up as her mother.
While she was horrible to her son too, Butterscotch would often cause her to be angry and make their relationship bitter up.
When Butterscotch impregnated their waitress, she knew that it would ruin her studies and future, and made her put the baby in adoption to save her from the same mistakes she once made.
Midsommar[]
Christian and his friends should be here. While they are jerks, they are meant to be sympathized with as they didn't deserve their fates.
These Characters don't quality[]
Staci (Total Drama): While she is still very annoying, she doesn't commit any heinous crimes to qualify. Instead, she should be a Scrappy. - The Edit Lord (talk) 08:36, August 2, 2024 (UTC)
These characters do not qualify[]
- Britt and Tiff Crust: Even though they do bully Jenny, ther are considered as on and off villains which are not allowed on this wiki
- Trina Riffin: even though she is quite mean, she is an on and off villain, which immediately disqualifies her.
- Kevin Burns (Edd, Edd n Eddy): Although he does bully the Edds, he is an on and off villain, which immediately disqualifies him.
- Nom Nom (We Bear Bears): Even though he is a jerk, he is tragic and is also sympathetic. He also redeems himself.
Why Jack Welker cannot qualify (now that he has been deleted)[]
Jack Welker: He may be a reprehensible archenemy of Walter and Jesse due to being a sadistic dog kicker who killed Hank and Steven and betrays those who work with him, but his "evil is cool" factors outweigh his hateable traits since Michael Bowen's performance is rather intimidating, he's a bombastic Professional Gunslinger who instigated a shoot-out between two DEA agents (Hank and Steven themselves) at one time, and he's rather faux affably evil and deceptive in general. Yomickayha382 (talk) 16:17, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
These characters are not hate sinks[]
- Spider-Man 2099 (Spider-Verse films) and Ben Reilly (Spider-Verse films): Too many cool and badass moments to qualify.
- Donkey Kong (2023 Super Mario Bros. Movie): Same reason as Spider-Man 2099 and Ben Reilly.
Julia from Total Drama is not allowed[]
Despite Julia being a mean, narcissistic, arsehole-ish bully, after a discussion made here about her, she was named her after one of her daughters, as well as with the creators seeing her as fun to write, which disqualifies her from being a Hate Sink.
Characters that should be on disallowed pages in my opinion.[]
Diavolo: Word of God from Araki states that Diavolo is his fourth favorite character, not to mention the fact that he has a mysterious vibe and alot of Evil is Cool moments that fans really loved such as his stand King Crimson, his VA's performance and being able to led Passione into a syndicate dreaded across Italy that gained connection to the media and government all while Diavolo doesn't reveal his identify.
J (Murder Drones): She has alot of Evil is Cool moments such as her fights between V. While not being tragic unlike N and V are, she still has a pet the dog moments of having a legitimate relationship with Tessa, which is played for sympathy as J despises Tessa's parents. (who were abusive to the both of them and the other Worker Drones)
All Pretty Blood-Related Characters are all banned[]
- Due to the Media containing Child P### (Which breaks ToS), any content of it will be immediately be flagged for deletion.
Mephiles The Dark(Sonic The Hedgehog)[]
Desite his sadistic nature, he has too much evil is cool qualities to qualify for this wiki.
[]
Anything of said series is far to offensive and controversial for Fandom due to it breaking ToS guidelines.
Claude Speed[]
Unless his live-action version counts, Claude can't be a hate sink as he doesn't have any and all personality to show, plus the standards of the 2D Universe is too high. And his worst actions were basically trying to overthrow the organization gangs in Anywhere City. If any, he's just far too bog standard to even be considered a Hate Sink.
VIllains Who Cannot Be Hate Sinks and Should Be In Disallowed Pages[]
- Samuel Deever: It's strongly hinted that he loves his wife and, despite his vile behavior to the protagonist, he ultimately falls short of the Hate Sink criteria altogether.
- Not Important: He solely exists purely for shock value, doesn't really add any of his hatefulness because the overall plot was never set in stone, and his past background is too nonexistent for him to fall under Hate Sink.
- Lewis Dodgson (film): Despite his worst atrocities which led him to be Pure Evil, he is not hateable enough to count as a Hate Sink than his novel version.
- Dio Brando: Has far too many "Evil is Cool" moments and was a considerably popular character in the franchise.
- Sonny Forelli: Even though he verbally abuses and threatens Tommy Vercetti throughout along with having incriminated him, he is far too insufficiently characterized to count as a Hate Sink.
Neural characters who can't really be considered Hate Sinks[]
The unnamed kids from (GH'S - Ambush): Despite being rather rude, they don't have too much known about them for the kids to have a clearer plot, unllike what the Scientist does.
These villains do not qualify to be hate sinks[]
- Ari Curd: While she does put the Bears through a terrifying VR experience, she is too affable to qualify.
- Barry Charles: While he is a completely unsympathetic villain to Ice Bear who is played very seriously, he seems to be genuinely insecure and have a few comedic moments.
- Pet Shoppe Owner: He does throw out the Baby Bears in the garbage when nobody adopts them (and is mentioned to have done the same to some hamsters a week prior) but he seems to be affable to his customers, not to mention that he is too insufficiently characterized besides being shown to be generally grumpy and discontent with most things.
- Pizza Rat: wWhile he does rat out the Bears to Agent Trout, he seems to be too insecure to count and is also insufficiently characterized.
- Julius Oppenheimmer Jr.: Even though he is little more than a violent, sadistic jerk who enjoys abusing smaller students, after he is tricked by Darwin into believing that his life has been ruined he realizes the errors of his ways and befriends Darwin, deciding to treat others better.
- Jamie Russo: While he she does do a lot of hateable actions such as being a bully, she is shown to be affable at times.
- DJ (Star Wars): While he does cowardly sell out Finn and Rose to the First Order just for his freedom, he is shown to be affable, which automatically makes him disqualify.
- El Pollito (Despicable Me 2): He attacks Gru and Lucy, helps El Macho find out that Lucy works for the AVL and tries to launch the rocket into the volcano with Gru and Lucy on it, but is ultimately meant to be a gag character meant to be a joke.
Dr. Cornelius Evazan (Canon) doesn't count[]
The Canon version of Dr. Cornelius Evazan doesn't count as a Hate Sink unlike his Legends counterpart, since in Canon he is shown to have a genuine friendship with Bonda Baba which is ultimately a redeeming and positive quality despite all the rather heinous and vile acts that he committed.
