~ Hitoshi Demegawa refuses to hand the Kira tape videos to Soichiro Yagami. |
Hitoshi Demegawa is a recurring supporting antagonist of the anime/manga series, Death Note. He is a greedy reporter that seeks to boost Sakura TV's ratings through whatever means necessary. That includes becoming a follower of Kira or using false stories to increase the popularity of Sakura TV. Hitoshi Demegawa initially acts as a loyal follower of Kira before betraying Kira to grab the money of the Special Provision for Kira.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- He's completely willing to do whatever it takes to boost the ratings of Sakura TV which includes encouraging his employees to make false stories and treating Kira, who is a mass murdering serial killer, as a celebrity.
- Uses his status as a hostage of the Second Kira to air video tapes to scare the public into trusting Kira and to promote Sakura TV.
- Despite helping the Japanese Task Force and L Lawliet in capturing Kyosuke Higuchi as the Yotsuba Kira, Demegawa makes it clear that he is only helping them capture Higuchi to boost the ratings of Sakura TV and gain more money.
- Upon being appointed Kira's spokesman, he turns his program into a propaganda outlet for Kira, urging viewers to report anyone who is against Kira so they can be killed.
- He leads a mob of Kira supporters in an attack on the SPK headquarters, telling them to drag Near and the others in front of the cameras so Kira can kill them. However, he then betrays Kira to steal the SPK's money, thereby making it clear that he only followed Kira to make money.
- Created a TV program called "Kira's Kingdom" to use the money of the Kira supporters to boost his fame and scam them out of their money, which even Light found disgusting.
- Eventually became a detrimental pawn to Light Yagami, resulting in Teru Mikami killing Demegawa due to his selfishness.
- The Japanese Task Force don't mourn his death due to his obnoxious greedy attitude, even stating that if anyone deserved to be killed by Kira, it was him.
- Unlike many villains, he acts as a completely greedy reporter with no complexities beyond wanting to satisfy his desire for fame and money.
