Icardi is a supporting antagonist in Master Detective Archives: Rain Code, serving as the secondary antagonist of Chapter 3: No Longer a Detective.

He was voiced by Kentaro Ito in Japanese. In the English dub, he was voiced by Ezra Weisz.

What Makes Him Despicable?[]

  • Even before he reveals his true nature, he takes part in a rough kidnapping of Yuma, the protagonist, following the destruction of his detective agency’s submarine, and only shows any sign of concern for what he did after Yuma tells him off for the kidnapping. While Iruka is responsible for this too, it isn’t foreshadowing of a more vile personality on her part.
  • Pretty much all of his interactions before he reveals himself are just him sarcastically dismissing the ideal of a resistance against Amaterasu Corporation and how he believes money and self-benefit is more worthwhile, foreshadowing his eventual plot against Shachi.
  • While he presents himself as an affable person at first, in reality, this just hides how much of a sociopath he actually is, and how willing he is to sell people out for his own benefit.
  • His refusal to believe the resistance against the Amaterasu Corporation Peacekeepers would work in the first place is what drives him. This implies that he thinks that any sort of resistance against Amaterasu is also a bad idea, which says a lot about how much of a coward he actually is. His point is proven in-story when those Peacekeepers dismantle the resistance, but his refusal to fight against an oppressive force because of his willingness to submit to defeat so easily does not make him likeable regardless.
  • As part of his murder plot, he uses the Peacekeepers themselves as pawns and intentionally directs them towards Yuma after framing him as a terrorist and forcing him into a game to disarm the bombs he set up before Yuma is blown up by the bracelet he’s wearing. This shows he has zero problems siccing the Peacekeepers on others despite being against them himself, which makes him a huge hypocrite.
  • He forced Servan to assist him regardless of the consequences. Said consequences involve Servan getting arrested alongside him.
  • Despite the consequences his actions have on the cast as a whole, his whole murder plot relies on a self-centred monetary gain to fund his own escape, with the implication he was willing to let everyone else continue to suffer under the Peacekeepers’ rule. The fact that he sets his case up how he does shows he wanted to get away with it, and cared not for who suffered in the process, all for the sake of funding his escape of the city by robbing the city’s bank.
  • By the time he gets exposed and his soul is reaped, none of the cast like him by the end, with even Halara ending up condemning him for his actions after his death. Yomi Hellsmile using Icardi’s plot as an excuse to attempt to execute the protagonists at the end of the chapter alongside Yomi making a reference back to it later on during Chapter 4 does not help this.
  • While he evidently shares everyone else's disdain for Peacekeeper Director Yomi (considering that the Peacekeepers being part of his motives is somewhat plausible), it's nowhere near a justification or redeeming quality and is not presented as an excuse for anything he did.

Trivia[]

  • Despite Amaterasu Corporation being a legitimate though inexcusable motive behind his despicable actions, with the company being led by the corrupt Makoto Kagutsuchi and Yomi Hellsmile, fans actually hate Icardi more than either of the two villainous characters.
