Im Jeong-dae is one of the major antagonists of the second season of the hit Netflix series, Squid Games. Jeong-dae participates in the 36th annual Squid Game so he can pay off the ₩10 billion won debt he acquired during his time as a businessman.

He is portrayed by Song Young-chang.

What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]

  • After the first game, Red Light, Green Light, where 91 players were killed, Jeong-dae is insistent that the games continue.
  • Even after Seong Gi-hun warns that if people continue to play the Game they will die, Jeong-dae ignores this warning during the first vote, first yelling at Gi-hun for his warning's to save their life and accusing him of being a guard in disguise. Despite initially not believing him, he then suggests that Gi-hun will give them advice on how to win (as Gi-hun previously survived the 33rd Squid Games in 2020).
  • He suggests they keep it a secret when Gi-hun revealed the 2nd game he played was dalgona, so that more people die.
  • Mocks Gi-hun when the 2nd time isn't dalgona.
  • Hopes that more people will die during the game so that way the amount of money can increase, being upset when noticing Gi-hun's team survived.
  • Rallies the crowd for "one more game" at the second vote and to press "O", despite 110 players being killed during the second game.
  • When the third vote results in a tie and the bathroom massacre in "O" votes being outnumbered by one, Jeong-dae has no qualms in killing the players who chose to leave the game to bring the vote back into his favor. Bare in mind that many of the people who voted to leave were also elderly and Kim Jun-hee (who is pregnant during the games).
  • Unlike Thanos who, while far more despicable, was far more enjoyable to watch due to his hamminess, there is nothing redeemable about Jeong-dae as his greed, callousness, and aggressiveness makes him unpleasant in the eyes of the audience.
