Inspector Filip Zeman is a minor antagonist in the manga and anime series Monster. He presents himself as clumsy and good-natured cop, only to be revealed to be an unscrupulous former member of the Czechoslovakian Secret Police (StB), the remnants of which were largely involved and implicated in organized crime, planning to enrich himself by selling the Kinderheim 511 tape.
He was voiced by Hirohiko Kakegawa in the Japanese version and Kevin Brief in the English dub.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- He kidnaps Grimmer and orders his man to brutally beat him in order to get the information he wants.
- After failing to get the information from Grimmer he tortures him himself by cutting his nails right to the skin, delighting in Grimmer agony, even sarcastically joking that he accidentally will cut them too short.
- He explains to Grimmer that he is a capitalist and only cares about getting rich by selling the Kinderheim tape on the black market, showing no regard for the possible curtail information the tape could contain.
- After Grimmer again refuses to reveal the information to Zeman, he orders his men to torture him even further, smugly warning him that this is his last chance and mocking him that nobody will help him.
- While his death of getting beaten to death is quite brutal, it's played with no sympathy, as he was already shown as a man without any remorse for torture and murder.
- It's even revealed after his death that he was always only motivated by money and even demanded bribes to stay quiet about the other corrupt cops on the force. The only person who was sad about his death is Jan Suk, and even he agrees that his mentor deserved it after learning the truth.
