Jackie Sullivan is the secondary antagonist of the 2024 jukebox musical psychological thriller film Joker: Folie à Deux, the sequel to the 2019 film Joker.
He is a corrupt and thuggish guard at the Arkham Asylum institution who regularly abuses the patients, especially towards Arthur Fleck.
He was portrayed by Brendan Gleeson.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- He often abuses the patients around Arkham.
- He shows no empathy towards Arthur, often asking him if he has any joke to tell despite being aware of his misery, and addresses him with a dark sense of humour.
- Although there are moments where he is shown to be kind to Arthur, he never cares about the latter as he mocks him at time, and eventually beats him up for insulting him on television.
- When Arthur in his Joker persona, insulted Jackie and other guards in the courtroom, he retaliates by beating him up and then possibly raped him at the bathroom, which sends him into a state of catatonia for the whole night.
- When Arthur's fellow inmate and friend Ricky Meline, began singing to support Arthur, and due to him refusing to stop singing as an act of defiance, Jackie opens his cell and strangled him to death in a fit of rage, which even shocks the other cruel Arkham guards.
- He ultimately faces no comeuppance by the end of the movie, turning him into Karma Houdini.
- Unlike other characters of the film, he has no cool moments, tragic backstories, or any redeeming qualities, just being a sadistic and cruel bully in general.
