Jackson Storm is the main antagonist of Pixar's 18th full-length animated feature film Cars 3 and its videogame adaptation.
He is a rookie belonging to the new generation of high-tech racers and the third rival of Lightning McQueen in the franchise. While not as brutal as Chick Hicks and Sir Miles Axelrod, he's still a great threat whom Lightning must face for the latter's racing career.
In the film, he is voiced by Armie Harmer. In Driven to Win, he is voiced by A.J Halmiton.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
Background[]
- In the past, Storm used to be very cocky but carefree during the time he won various races in a game called "Super Corsa 3", where he met his crew chief, his friend and Sponsor. However, after he was defeated by Tim Treadless, he became frustrated and rageful.
Cars 3[]
- Like Chick Hicks, Storm is very arrogant, haughty and selfish although he conceals his emotions more from others. He is also misogynistic, as with Cruz, whom he considers inferior and did not suspect at the start that she could be stronger than him and even win.
- Jackson's actions in the final race reflect Chick Hicks' actions in the first movie, aggressively attacking King and McQueen.
- Jackson Storm's role bears resemblence to antagonists like Chick Hicks, Ripslinger and Trip Murphy, albeit in a weaker capacity. Whereas Chick and Ripslinger are ruthless adversaries who will resort to all means for victory, Storm is barely seen committing such acts, as his extreme performance preludes the need of such.
- Despite his limited resources, Storm is still indirectly responsible for Lightning's near-fatal crash in the first place, as his callous insults to the latter about his old age while racing made him desperately go faster, only for it to dramatically backfire.
- When Sally came to see McQueen's final race, she saw Storm interacting with Cruz before they got on the track in a mean way, and she viewed him as a jerk.
- Storm becomes very angry in times of weakness, and when Cruz Ramirez moved to pass him during the Florida 500, Jackson responded by violently slamming her against a wall.
- Although Cruz won the Florida 500 race against Storm, it is unknown what happened to him afterwards, making him something of a Karma Houdini, given that Storm doesn't receive any onscreen punishment.
- While Chick Hicks is a fellow Hate Sink due to his cheating tendencies, he's at least very comedic. Sir Miles Axlerod may be a dangerous terrorist, but he's rather intriguing for a villain himself. Storm doesn't have anything to prove his overall charm to the audience, other than just being a bully in front of others.
Trivia[]
- Jackson, Cad Spinner and Ripslinger are the only Cars Villains to be Hate Sinks.
- Likewise Storm is one of the few Hate Sinks who are not villains.
