Jacques Schnee is an major antagonist from the animated web series RWBY by Rooster Teeth. He is the greedy father of Weiss Schnee who uses slavery to power the Schnee Dust Company, of who he is the head of.
He is voiced by Jason Douglas.
What Makes him a Hate Sink?[]
In General[]
- He runs the Schnee Dust Company, in which he recruits a large number of miners and makes them work in extremly dangerous conditions, where someone could get hurt. They were also shown to be deadly, as one mine exploded and caused multiple deaths (including those of Ilia Amitola's parents).
- He enslaved many Faunus and forced them to do labor for the company, while having them branded, He is somewhat responsible for Adam Taurus' hatred for humanity.
- To say he is extremely rude towards everyone around him would be a massive understatement.
Background[]
- He only married Willow not only to uphold the Schnee name but also for her riches, and never loved her at all.
- The two often argued when Willow wondered Jacques never provided good care for his children.
- His abuse towards his family is what drove Willow into severe alcoholism.
- He was a awful dad. He cut Winter off from the family fortune when she left to join the Atlesian Military. Additionally, when Weiss wanted freedom and independence from her father, he had her fight a big suit of armor powered by a Grimm, and this would leave Weiss with a scar on her right eye in the aftermath, making him fully responsible for her being a cold person later on. While he does pass the heir to the SDC title to Whitley, not only was this out of pragmatism, but it was done right after he demoted Weiss and didn't allow her to stand up to him, showing he only uses his son as an extension of himself.
- Furthermore, in some scenes you could see that Whitley seemed sad because of the verbal abuse his father gave to Weiss and in the next volumes, he doesn't even make arrangements to get his father out of prison which would imply that Whitley also hated Jacques.
- Additionally, when Winter said Weiss made the decision for him to be saved after everyone else was evacuated, it is implied that if the decision was hers to make and not Weiss', she would've left Jacques for dead, showing how little she cares for him.
RWBY[]
Volume 3[]
- He cut Weiss off from the family fortune just because she refused to answer a call from him.
Volume 4[]
- When Weiss questioned Jacques' controversial reign of the Schnee Dust Company, Jacques retaliated by slapping her face and took her status as heiress of the Schnee Dust Company away.
Volume 7 & Volume 8[]
- He tried to guilt-trip Weiss in front her friends.
- He gave Watts his code to hack into the Atlas network and rig the election in his favor in order to win, causing a massacre that killed most of Robyn’s supporters and led to Penny being framed for the incident.
- It's shown that he is a massive coward. When outed for collaborating with Watts to rig the election in his favour, he's reduced to a stammering, sweating wreck who can only manage feeble lies in his defense. When that fails, he tries to escape.
- Even in prison, he refused to own up to his crimes, trying to play the victim card. Additionally, when he claimed he was not a murderer, he turned towards Qrow, who was wrongly accused of murdering Clover Ebi.
- While his death of getting blown up by Ironwood is terrifying, it isn't played for sympathy by any means and he more than deserved it.
