~ Janos showing his callousness over betraying Ned Stark. |
Lord Janos Slynt was a supporting antagonist in the television show Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire book series. He formerly led the City Watch in King's Landing, and was an amoral, corrupt thug who betrayed and caused Eddard Stark's execution to the Lannisters. Because of his crimes, he was sent to the Night's Watch by Tyrion Lannister.
He was portrayed by Dominic Carter.
What Makes Him Hated?[]
- Prior to the events of the series, he was a corrupt officer who gladly took bribes from others like Littlefinger to advance his political position. The only reason he still was allowed to maintain his occupation was King Robert Baratheon worrying the next replacement might be even worse.
- Betrayed Eddard Stark and order the City watch to kill his men to the Lannisters and showed no care for his actions.
- When Joffrey Baratheon ordered to purge all of Robert Baratheon's unwedded children, Janos is shown heartlessly killing a baby in front of the mother. He would later nonchalantly discuss his role when Tyrion invites him for dinner, considering it just be following orders.
- Refused to take responsibility for his role in Eddard Stark's betrayal and execution.
- When Tyrion insults him for his atrocities, he angrily insults Tyrion twice for his dwarfism. While being sent to the Wall, he repeatedly boasts about having powerful friends on his side, even though everybody views him as an amoral goon.
- Repeatedly antagonizes Jon Snow and Samwell Tarly, calling the former a bastard and the latter a Wildling lover, and acts completely indignant when he is justifiably called out for this. He also acts like a complete idiot in his duties, believing there were no giants even when they appear right in front of him, and dismissing the Wildlings as nothing more than unruly thieves.
- He mocks Gilly and calls her a whore, further insulting her by offering her money to prove it in front of Sam, her friend.
- During the Battle for the Wall, he cowardly flees from the battle when he was supposed to be fighting with his allies against the Wildlings thanks to his lack of true combat experience, hiding in the kitchen with Gilly and her baby. Even Olly and Gilly showed more bravery than he did that day.
- Refused Jon Snow's order to head to Greyguard, even though the position was more than what he deserved. Due to his defiance, he was executed to which Janos begged him to not go through with it.
- He is a complete coward who hides and/or cries as soon as his own life is in danger. He is never presented in a positive light. even Jon's other rivals like Alliser Thorne are in no rush to save him from his execution.
