Jason Orlean is the secondary antagonist of the 2021 Netflix satirical black comedy film Don't Look Up.

He was portrayed by Jonah Hill.

What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]

  • He abuses his power and his very unqualified for his job given his incompetent behavior which is shown throughout the film, as he possesses absolutely none of the skills, patience, and perspective that are required for the position.
  • He is very rude to people in lower social classes.
  • He agrees with President Janie Orlean's decision to "sit tight and assess" when word of the incoming comet reaches them, showing how he refuses to take the threat seriously.
    • He finds it boring when the main protagonists tell the President about the comet's threat.
    • He doesn't take their claims seriously until they're corroborated by Ivy League scientists.
  • He treats the main protagonists with apathy, as shown when he acts rude towards them during their first encounter when he openly makes fun of Randall and Kate for their Michigan State credentials despite the university having a very prestigious astronomy program, and later when Kate asks about going to the bathroom while waiting for Randall to finish meeting with the administration and he says they will lay out some newspaper and grab a can of Febreze.
  • After the "Don't Look Up" supporters and voters they're trying to court turn on him and his mother, he tells them that they're a bunch of stupid rednecks.
  • Overall, he is meant to be aggressively unlikeable like Peter Isherwell, being ignorant, classist, and misogynistic.
