Jim is the main antagonist of Tim Burton's 1990 live-action film Edward Scissorhands. He was Edward's arch-nemesis and Kim's ex-boyfriend.
He was portrayed by Anthony Michael Hall.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- The moment Edward Scissorhands is brought into the neighborhood by the Boggs family as one of their own, Jim instantly harbors a prejudice towards him and doesn't even consider him as a friend. He actually laughs at the site of Edward getting electrocuted on television.
- He takes advantage of Edward's ability to pick locks in order to break into his parents' house and steal their money so his gang can buy a new van. When that doesn't work and the burglar alarm goes off, he and his gang leave Edward behind to get arrested and take the blame, despite Kim's protests that they turn around and go back for him.
- He tries to place part of the blame on Kim for tagging along on the heist when it was all his idea.
- While Edward is creating an angel ice sculpture as Kim dances underneath, Jim calls out to her, which distracts Edward and causes him to accidentally cut her hand. An enraged Jim blames Edward for hurting her on purpose and once again stirs up trouble among the Boggs family, causing Edward to storm off.
- After Kim dumps him, he refuses to come to terms with her feelings and goes on a drunk rampage, almost running over Kim's younger brother. Even his friends think he deserved to be dumped.
- He does pretty much everything to set Edward up as a dangerous criminal and plays a huge role in ousting him from the neighborhood.
- He goes as far as to hunt Edward down to his hilltop mansion and try to kill him.
- Instead of listening to Kim's death threats, he slaps her aside and resumes his fight with Edward.
- He was the only person that Edward hurt on purpose, so much in fact that Edward outright gutted him and sent him falling out the window, making his death so much more than well deserved.
- He is the considerable opposite of the gentle hearted Edward, who has shown on numerous occasions that he can make physical contact without hurting someone, most notably shown when he embraced Kim.
- Overall, he is a contemptible and disgusting sociopath with no redeeming traits whatsoever.
