James Wilson Vincent "Jimmy" Savile is the main antagonist of the 2023 drama mini-series The Reckoning, which was partially based on the novel In Plain Sight: The Life and Lies of Jimmy Savile by Dan Davies.

He is based directly on the real life sex offender, child molester, and suspected necrophile of the same name.

He was portrayed by Steve Coogan.

Personality[]

On the outside, Savile presented himself as a charismatic man who was recognized by several famous figures such as Queen Elizabeth II. However, underneath his facade, Saville was a psychopathic man who cared primarily for satisfying his own perversions using manipulation and his ties to several noteworthy people. He would volunteer at hospitals to prey on the defenseless all while using his public figure to hide his abominable nature.

Much like in real life, Savile appeared to love his mother referring to her as "the Duchess," but the show leans towards the implication that Savile was incestuously obsessed with his mother on one occasion wearing his father's ring almost imagining being married to his own mother.

He saw everyone as a Potential victim potentially children. There is also rumours that he aided the Yorkshire Ripper

Biography[]

While being interviewed by an author named Dan Davies, the series follows Savile through his life showing how his rise and eventual fall. Becoming a popular DJ, Savile does his work throughout Manchester and Leeds eventually volunteering at the Leeds General Infirmary.

Unbeknownst to the faculty, Savile would use the facility to hunt for victims to take advantage of and even engages in indecent acts with corpses. Savile is invited to be a co-host for the new BBC series Top of the Pops where he takes advantage of the growing influence under the notion he could now do whatever with impunity.

Eventually, Savile would become the host of his own show called Jim'll Fix It culminating in him becoming a household name much to his victims' horror. To further make himself feel unstoppable, Savile directs a fundraising campaign for the Stoke Mandeville Hospital and uses the political power he had obtained to silence his victims.

However, hundreds of allegations continued to flare throughout the 2000s with Savile trying to maintain his image, refusing to confess to his many crimes or let alone seek atonement. Instead, he opts to push his chances as he did throughout his career until he was found dead at his flat with his fingers crossed.

Almost immediately after his death, Savile's true nature is revealed to the public with many victims of his abuse finally able to speak their truths without fear. Savile would go down as the worst sex offender in British history, his legacy in tatters.
