“ | If Night City had a contest for the most rotten-to-the-core piece of human garbage, Jotaro Shobo would stand a pretty decent chance of winning. Maybe not first place, but he'd definitely be up there. Jotaro is a high-ranking Tyger Claws ganger who, thanks to his intelligence, loyalty and ruthlessness, quickly made his way up the pecking order. He rules his lackeys with an iron fist and is never late with his cut for the bosses, who repay him with protection and turning a blind eye to his various "hobbies". One of them includes recording braindances and anyone who's relived them calls him the devil of Kabuki. | „ |

“ | "Jotaro Shobo. Ring a bell? Guy's a f*ckin' psychopath - records himself torturing joytoys and sells that sh*t to likeminded scumbags. The Mox finally tracked him down. This is your chance to give this f*cker what he deserves and earn a little scratch while you're at it. More on this sicko attached." | „ |
~ Regina Jones giving a brief summary of Jotaro before the mission "Monster Gig". |
Jotaro Shobo is a minor antagonist in the 2020 science fiction video game Cyberpunk 2077 as the main antagonist and primary target of the side quest, Gig: Monster Hunt. He is the owner of the Ho-Oh club in Kabuki and a high-ranking member of the Tyger Claws gang, and he is known as the worst man in Night City as he has recorded multiple snuff films of his victims, those who are fortunate to survive begin calling him the “Devil Of Kabuki.” He finally got his well-deserved fate when V either kills him or brings him to the Mox where he is presumably killed by the Moxes. Although he appears in only one side gig where he dies or gets kidnapped in said side gig, there are multiple shards, emails, messages and conversations that can be discovered across Night City, showing more of Jotaro's depraved behavior including connecting him to sex trafficking and S.A.
What makes him a Hate Sink?[]
- His first introduction was from Regina Jones who gives V a brief description of what Jotaro is; A psychopath who records himself torturing joy toys and selling those snuff films to other depraved people. This is when V was given the mission to take down Jotaro.
- As said before, Jotaro would record snuff films of himself sadistic and sometimes murdering joytoys and those who are unfortunate enough to be kidnapped by him. This is something Jotaro considers to be a hobby and it's pretty much clear that he likes to do it more for fun rather than profit. Those who are fortunate enough to have survive him refer to him as "The Devil of Kabuki".
- Emails can be found in his laptop which make it clear that he is always on the lookout for 'fresh ingredients' for his braindances, as he puts it. In other words, He is considering kidnaping children as he sees child victims as particularly valuable.
- There are terminal entries which shows that he has a sadistic mind, as he has brainstorm new ways to degrade, torture and kill his victims as a way to expand the "art" of braindances. One has Shobo pondering the logistics of syncing the experiences of two people so one was force to have sex with someone the victim cares about while forcing the victim to experience it as if they were the one doing it, another was binding two people and forcing them to do things to each other they don't like, such as being forced to have sex with someone "ugly" such as a homeless person at the same time as a way to make them feel pleasure mixed with either guilt or disgust, showing a sadistic side to his personality.
- He makes deals with human traffickers, Scavs and even border guards to bring in more victims and also have connections to the NCPD by bribing them.
- He also has some of those trafficked victims go inside containers presumably to become part of another of his snuff films.
- V can find one in an area around Kubaki and after killing the guards and opening the container that they're guarding, it reveals a group of people who were kidnaped under Shobo's orders, one of them, Tracy Owens was unfortunately dead by the time V opened the container and the shard next to her was heartbreaking, showing a conversation between Tracey and her mom, Ana Owens in which the former ask the latter for help when she was being kidnapped by the Tyger Claws under Jotaro's orders, the message would end with Ana telling Tracey that she called the police and that she loved her. This gives more reason for the player to hate Shobo even more.
- He is not so kind to the lower members of the gang he's in (The Tyger Claws), essentially intimidating his own subordinates.
- Even the other Tyger Claws are disturbed by his "hobby" so much so that many of them are so terrified of becoming his next "star," and none of the Tyger Claws miss him when he dies with some chatter between them speaks of his death as if it were an accident.
- It also should be noted that the Mox (The gang that ordered the hit on Jotaro) and The Tyger Claws (the gang Jotaro is a part of) are bitter enemies so the fact that the Mox are able to openly order a hit on Jotaro, a high-ranking member of the Tyger Claws without retaliation from the gang shows how much he is actually respected.
- He got what he deserves when V either kills him in the club he's in or he was brought to the Mox where the former joytoys give him "a taste of his own medicine" as Regina puts it.
- He also shown to be weak as he is the target of an early-game gig that the player would most likely forget after V easily deposit of him.
- Even Woodman, who is known to have mistreated, abuse and even rape Joytoys and is responsible for the death of Evelyn Parker is also disturbed by Jotaro, saying that he wants nothing to do with Jotaro, even pointedly telling V that he never wanted to be like Shobo, showing that Jotaro crosses lines even Woodman wouldn't even touch. It really shows just how much of a scumbag Jotaro is when a literal rapist is disturbed by his actions.
- Overall, he is a sadistic scumbag who kidnaps innocent citzens and records snuff flims that are so depraved that it even disgusts his own gang members who fears that they might be next. He is so thoroughly despised that the Mox, a rival gang to the Tyger Claws, are able to openly order a hit on him without any retaliation from the Claws. Addition, barely anyone misses him after his death and his actions made Adam Smasher look sane and even horrifies other scumbags of Night City like Woodman. His actions are taken seriously and have no comedic moments and he lacks any redeeming qualities that some other antagonists have such as Yorinobu Arasaka or an 'Evil Is Cool' presence such as Saburo Arasaka (or the Arasaka faction as a whole) and Royce of the Maelstrom faction.
