~ Junior framing Taylor for falling asleep on shift. |
Junior is a supporting antagonist in Oliver Stone's 1986 Vietnam War film Platoon. He is Bunny's closest friend and an attempted gangrapist like him, but also lacks any guts or brains.
He was portrayed by Reggie Johnson.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- He constantly makes racist comments towards his fellow soldiers who are white.
- He falls asleep on watch when Taylor asks him to take his shift, and then blames him for Gardner's subsequent death to avoid getting punished by Barnes (who doesn't believe his lie for one second and even gives him a death stare while threatening to "take an interest in seeing him suffer" if he does it again).
- He helps lead Bunny's gangrape of two young Vietnamese girls.
- And worse yet, in the next scene back at camp, Junior has the audacity to fearfully call Barnes and Bunny "crazy motherf*ckers" for their crimes, which comes off as absurdly flagrant hypocrisy.
- He fakes jungle rot by putting bugspray on his feet in an attempt to leave the war early, and then freaks out when Barnes threatens to put a centipede on his crotch to see if he can walk after that. This even pisses off O'Neill, who's also a coward as well as Bunny, although he was only angry about being denied greater amusement due to his cowardice.
- In the film's climax, he runs away from his fighting position and leaves Bunny to fend for himself, which results in both their deaths.
- Whilst Bunny is also a Hate Sink, at least Bunny is brave and can hold his own in a confrontation. Junior on the other hand is just a complete woos.
