ā€œ Get out of here... You gonna make me repeat myself?, leave my sight. You know why. The way you cry like a baby all day long. Aren't you ashamed of yourself?.. Good for nothing, any effort spent on you is an absolute waste of time. Our teacher is an extraordinary man. [..] Hey you, don't go being all familiar and calling him gramps! He's a former Hashira, someone who earned the highest tile in the Demon Slayer Corps. Hardly anyone ever gets the chance to be trained by a former Hashira. The time he spends training you is all for nothing its infuriating to see! I hate even looking at you so get out! Why are you even here? Why do you insist on clinging on like a patch of mold?! ā€ž

ā€œ I know what right and wrong is! Those who appreciate my talent is the right, those who don't and denounce me is the wrong! ā€ž
~ Kaigaku revealing his values.

Kaigaku (In Japanese: ēŖå²³, Kaigaku) is a supporting antagonist in the action dark fantasy series, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He served as one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Nakime) of the Infinity Castle arc.

He was a former member of the Demon Slayer Corps, a senior to Zenitsu Agatsuma, and a disciple of Jigoro Kuwajima, the former Thunder Hashira. He later betrayed the corps after encountering the Upper One of the Twelve Kizuki, Kokushibo, becoming a demon to protect his own hide and quickly becoming the new Upper Six demon. Due to his betrayal, he quickly became the arch-enemy of Zenitsu.

He is voiced by Yoshimasa Hosoya in the Japanese version of the anime and by Alejandro Saab in the English version.

What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]

Background[]

  • He was an orphan, and when Gyomei Himejima was a monk, he lived under him like other orphans and as a family, but he stole money from the temple due to developing kleptomania.
  • On the night that he was expelled from the temple for stealing the money, he extinguished the Wisteria incense near the temple and causing the demon to kill most of the other children Gyomei took care of. Also because of this, Gyomei was mistaken for a child murderer by the police officers that came to investigate and thrown into prison, which caused him to have a low opinion on children.
  • Immediately after being accepted as a disciple to Jigoro Kuwajima, he bullied Zenitsu Agatsuma, believing that he was nothing more than a coward (which is true at first) who had won the favor of his master through absurd luck, which can be seen as an very hypocritical act of him, since he's just of, if not even more than a coward himself.
  • In Zenitsu and Kaigaku's flashback (in the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle movie), when two Demon Slayers were talking bad about him (to the point of saying that they wouldn't care if Zenitsu died), Zenitsu justifiably hit them for it, but when Kaigaku found out about this, instead of congratulating him for defending himself or asking what happened to Zenitsu or at least comforting him, he unfairly furious victim-blames him by asking him if he hit a superior Demon Slayer, he scolds meanly for defending himself and that Zenitsu should not cause more problems, despite the fact that Zenitsu defended himself from an injustice and shows how hypocritical, dimwitted and cruel Kaigaku was.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba[]

Infinity Castle Arc[]

  • He appeared as a demon in front of Zenitsu, it is shown that he surrendered to Kokushibo in order to survive, and willingly became a demon by taking blood, which caused Jigoro to commit seppuku out of shame. This act was made even worse by the fact Jigoro technically adopted him.
    • While one could understand that Kokushibo was too powerful and would've killed him, that still doesn't justify Kaigaku's betrayal as he had initially offered to spare him.
  • He provoked Zenitsu's anger by mocking Jigoro's death, showing that Kaigaku had absolutely no regrets for causing his master's and adoptive father's death.
  • After he was beheaded by Zenitsu, who created a new form called Seventh Form: God of Fire and Thunder, he still had no regrets about his evil deeds, and he still denies that Zenitsu has overtaken him, and he died miserably while having a massive villainous breakdown.
  • He is the only human with a totally rotten personality among the Demon Slayers. He only fails to the heinous standards, but his personality is nearly as rotten as Muzan Kibutsuji's.
