Kent Mansley is the main antagonist of Warner Bros' 1999 animated feature film The Iron Giant.
He is voiced by Christopher McDonald.
What Makes Him A Hate Sink?[]
- He believes that he can do whatever he wants whenever he wants if he "feel[s] it’s in the people’s best interest".
- He acts like the Iron Giant is a mortal enemy to humankind, even though he is peaceful, with the worst thing he does being destroying human property for food. (The Iron Giant may have been designed to be a weapon by aliens, but he is not being used for warfare in the present.)
- While the Iron Giant took a bite out of his car, it doesn't justify him trying to destroy the Giant.
- Part of the reason that he wishes to find and destroy the Iron Giant is to boost his own reputation, which is a selfish motive.
- While he's comedic in the first half of the movie, this does not last.
- He threatens to take away Hogarth from his mother, before chloroforming him.
- He doesn't listen when Dean tells him that the Giant will only attack in self-defense.
- He lies to General Rogard that the Iron Giant killed Hogarth.
- His carelessness almost leads to Rockwell being destroyed by a missile.
- He cowardly tried to drive away to avoid getting blown up by the missile he launched only to get stopped by the Iron Giant.
Trivia[]
- In many ways, he represents the paranoia America possessed during the Cold War.
- Ironically, he carries some characteristics of Hogarth's father, as Hogarth's father is deceased in the film.
