Koji Shindo in a minor antagonist in Yakuza and a secondary antagonist in Yakuza 2. Initially the second-in-command of the Nishikiyama family ran by Akira Nishikiyama, he becomes their second patriarch after the latter's death. His resentment for Kiryu led him to betray the Tojo Clan and selling them out to the Omi Alliance, The Tojo Clan's historical enemies.
What Makes him Despicable?[]
- In the first game, he tried to kill Kiryu, under Nishiki's orders. Despite using a katana and is assisted by multiple men, he is defeated, showing that he is weak.
- In Yakuza 2, after Yayoi Dojima asks him to help Kiryu fight the Omi Alliance,he flatly refuses, blaming Kiryu for the death of their patriarch, ignoring that Nishikiyama committed suicide. Also, as rightfully pointed out by Kashiwagi, Nishiki had betrayed the Tojo Clan before, so Kiryu doesn't need to apologize at all.
- He puts on a smug smile, when the Go-Ryu Clan tries to crash Yukio Terada's funeral.
- He betrays the Tojo Clan by helping Sengoku assassinate several Tojo officers.
- Tooks Kashiwagi, Yayoi and her son Daigo hostage at the Tojo Clan HQ. He also sexually harasses Yayoi, confessing his desire to marry her despite Yayoi's protest.
- In his fight against Kiryu, he shows cowardice, escaping when he's damaged enough.
- After being defeated, he tries to kill Kiryu with a gun, leading to his own death at Daigo's hands.
- Overall, he is a scummy yakuza who has no traits to make you like him, making the players feel satisfied when fighting and defeating him. He also lacks the sympathetic and tragic backstory, redeeming qualities and Evil Is Cool moments that Nishikiyama has and even Kanda, a fellow Hate Sink has a few funny moments.
