Kurozumi Orochi is a major antagonist of One Piece, serving as the secondary antagonist of Wano Country Arc. He is the Shogun of Wano, who used Kaido's influence to take over Wano and make its citizens' life hell due to revenge against his clan's persecution. Despite being supposedly Kaido's ally, he betrays him after finding Orochi's ambitions to be of no use.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- Despite having a genuine tragedy of being unjustly persecuted for his grandfather's crimes, Orochi is far past it as he decided to ruin Wano just to punish the vigilantes.
- Fancied himself as the rightful heir of Wano despite having his grandfather committed seppuku due to his attempt of an unlawful coup.
- Taking advantage of Kanjuro's loss, Orochi deliberately molded him into an empty shell so that Kanjuro can infiltrate Oden's inner circle, even encouraging him to die for the role.
- Swindled money from Yasu'ie and Oden just to fund their coup, despite Oden's trust in him.
- Weakened Sukiyaki so that he could have Higurashi proclaim that Orochi would be his heir.
- While Oden was out searching for the One Piece with Gol D. Roger, Orochi, alongside Higurashi and Semimaru, had Sukiyaki imprisoned to punish him for his grandfather's honor, ignoring that his grandfather tried to attack him as a baby to seize Wano.
- Allied with Kaido to become Shogun of Wano as well as creating hypocritical rules.
- One of his rules include forbidding Wano resident from drinking alcohol except for Fire Festival as he and his allies can do so.
- Another is forbidding anyone from leaving or entering Wano, but Orochi permitted this for CP0 to make deals.
- Orochi along with Kaido, kidnapped 100 people ostensibly to make them work in Kaido's weapons factories, but more importantly, as hostages to Oden so that he couldn't fight back against both of them.
- Decided to humiliate Oden by making him dance in front of the Flower Capital, thus ensuring he loses his honor and is mocked by the Wano populace.
- Went back on his words when Oden requested him to leave Wano as per the agreement.
- Orochi killed Hyogoro's wife for simply speaking out against him.
- Although he wanted to avenge his clan for the discrimination, he made Tama’s parents, who’s also Kurozumi to suffer as the rest of Wano citizen, and their death cause Tama to be an orphan.
- Specifically, Tama's parents died while working in his factories, proving that he has no real allegiance to the Kurozumi Clan and only used them to become Shogun.
- Despite Higurashi being Orochi's most loyal supporter, he dismissed her death at the hands of Kaido.
- Killed several people in Wano when they tried to protest Oden's unjustful execution.
- Fed Ebisu village people faulty leftover SMILE fruit that caused them to lose their ability to express negative emotion so he be this delusional to believe that people are happy with his rule.
- As a result of that, he was full of glee at their suffering that they can’t even mourn for Yasuie’s death.
- Orochi prove to be an extremely arrogant smog as he believe that as long Kaido is there to protect him unaware that Kaido is using him as he negotiates with CP0.
- Made everywhere in Wano excluding Flower Capital into a living hell for Wano people.
- Orochi used the Beasts Pirates and the Oniwabanshu to keep the rebellious elements in Flower Capital in line, not caring about the Flower Capital's wellbeing.
- Orochi gave Killer a SMILE fruit as a sadistic choice to saving his captain, as a result Killer loses his ability to express his negative emotion and keep on laughing, which he hated.
- Orochi spread false propaganda to make Kozuki Clan the villain and him being the hero with the sword skill as Orochi’s Two Sword style instead of Oden’s, which in actuality Orochi has no skills.
- He tried to kill Toko for laughing at him during the Banquet despite the fact he was responsible for feeding faulty SMILEs.
- He proven to be an extremely cowardly person whenever he encounters stronger foes as well as being afraid of the prophecy that the Kozuki Clan will seek revenge.
- Orochi tells his subordinates to kill or torture anyone who is against him.
- He wants to marry Komurasaki, who’s actually Kozuki Hiyori, only for her beauty and his love for her is extremely shallow as well as being a womanizer.
- Orochi decided to kill Yasuie himself, just to spite any would-be Kozuki Clan rebels, and tried to kill Toko.
- Orochi arrogantly believes that he stop the rebels thanks to intel from Kanjuro only to find out his plan failed.
- When Kanjuro brought Momonosuke, he sees this as an opportunity to do a public execution in Onigashima to break the rebals’ spirits.
- When Kaido’s announced the “New Onigashima Project” Orochi objected that the Flower Capital is his to rule despite the fact that Kaido help him rise to power for the past twenty-five years only for Kaido to betray and decapitate him as he never liked him, which is pretty satisfying to see his ego crushed.
- All of Orochi’s subordinates switch to Kaido’s as they have no real loyalty to him.
- When Orochi is revealed to be alive he is furious that he intended to burn Onigashima with Fukurokuju to take down Kaido and the rebel’s unaware that he is stuck in the floating island heading towards the Flower Capital.
- When he is confronted with the remaining Scabbards, he taunts them by stating about Kanjuro and believes that that he could take them down in their weaken state only for them to easily decapitate six out of his seven heads with Kin’emon stating he is not worth their time..
- Orochi revealed to be alive with only one head left, he made a final gambit to create a murder-suicide pact on Kanjuro to create a drawing called Kazenbo to destroy the island, which could include the Flower Capital, by blowing up the armory in Onigashima while waiting for Fukurokuju to escape with his help and later reuniting with Komurasaki.
- After Fukurokuju’s defeat by Raizo, and Kazenbo to fail, he lost his patience and lash out at Komurasaki, when the rumble falls on top of him, he can’t transform due to Komurasaki secretly planting a Seastone nail.
- He angrily asked why she would do it if she loves him only for her to state that she despised him and reveal her true identity and causing to be afraid that the Kozuki’s clan would get their revenge,
- When Hiyori has him at his mercy, Orochi tried to cowardly tell Hiyori that he respects Oden and Kaido betray him, and he want to be free from the rubble, this only made Hiyori even more furious because she knows all too well for his treacherous nature and his treatment toward her father as she takes off her mask to her true feeling towards him.
- When Kazenbo arrive and tells him that he failed to blow up the island, Orochi, not knowing that Kazenbo's order include a suicide pact, tells Kazenbo to burn Hiyori only to be burn by him and Orochi once again pathetically asked for her help.
- When Orochi is freed the Seastone nail, he tried to one last time to kill Hiyori out of spite knowing his death would come only for Denjiro to cut off the final head.
- Despite losing his final head, he is still alive for a brief moment before he made one final attempt to tell Hiyori that the Kurozumi will curse Wano for years to come only for her to state that he is born to burn and his revenge would all for nothing before succumbing to the flames with Orochi dying as a complete loser with no single bit of victory.
- Unlike many One Piece villains who usually gets defeat as unconscious cause they have either a redeemable or comical traits, he gets killed off permanently and his death is satisfying for both fans and In-Universe audiences of Wano.
