“ | Whoa, whoa, I'm just saying; not everyone can write songs, okay? I know I make it look easy, babe... but it's not. | „ |
~ Lance doubting that Ash Can write her own song, showing how unsupportive he really was with her, as well as individualistic. |
Lance is a supporting character in the 2016 computer-animated film Sing. He is a male porcupine who was Ash's ex-boyfriend, and is now dating Becky. Although not a outright villain, Lance makes a very hateful impression due to his treatment of Ash throughout the film, as he constantly criticized her and refused to share the stage with her due to his own desire to be the center of attention. Ash later broke up with him after she caught him cheating on her with Becky.
He is voiced by Beck Bennett.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- After he and Ash fail to get a gig at Harry's Bar, Lance berates his girlfriend for "getting carried away" during the performance, saying that this "just kind of ruins his song".
- Accuses Ash of being a "sellout" for wanting to enter Buster Moon's contest to win prize money for both of them, and for entering the contest without him (who was rejected to the show).
- He refused to allow Ash to be the lead singer, and instead insisting that she be his background singer during their shows because of his desire to hog the spotlight, going just to show how arrogant and selfish he truly is.
- When Ash expressed her desire to write her own song, Lance simply criticized her and mocked the idea, claiming that "not everyone can write songs" and believing that Ash doesn't have what it takes to create a song, showing how unsupportive he was with her.
- He cheats on Ash with another porcupine named Becky, and when discovered, he tried to justify himself by saying that it was Ash's fault for not being around anymore, even though Ash did everything she could to enter the contest for both of them. He even mocks Ash when she slams the door in his face and leaves with Becky.
- Overall, Lance is a self-centered and egotistical jerkass who only cares about himself and being in the spotlight, and possesses zero redeeming qualities.
