Lawrence Quinn, referred to as Larry Quinn by Conrad, is the main antagonist of the 2003 live-action adaptation of Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat.
He was portrayed by Alec Baldwin who also voiced Makunga in Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa.
What makes him a Hate Sink?[]
- He was created by the film to act as an antagonist that the audience could hate, since the original book lacked an antagonist.
- He is an unemployed, rude, arrogant, condescending, lazy slob living a lie next door, pretending to be employed when he's in serious debt. It's implied he's only dating Joan for her money.
- He admits to Conrad that he doesn't like him and plans to send him to military school. He's never given a reason for disliking Conrad either.
- He nearly calls Joan a b-tch behind her back, calling Conrad a "snot nosed son of a-" before switching to "wonderful woman who I'm absolutely crazy about" when he hears Joan coming.
- He ultimately worsens the tension between Joan and Conrad.
- He is shown to be quite disgusting when he farts while picking his bellybutton in one scene.
- While he does return Nevins to the Walden residence, this is only to get in Joan's good graces. In other scenes, he is shown to act quite nasty to Nevins. A deleted scene even shows him getting ready to kick Nevins before he grows into a bigger dog and attacks Quinn.
- In one scene, he goes into the Walden household to steal some beer and bread and impolitely burp in the kids' faces.
- Before the repo men take away his television, he attempts to bribe them with expired credit cards and treats them rudely after failing to win them over since he thinks they are "below" him. This is hypocritical, since he acts snobbish and entitled despite being unemployed.
- He tries to get Conrad and Sally in trouble out of spite.
- His final scene has him covered in purple goo, being rejected by Joan and left out on the street crying, which is played for karma.
