These twentieth century games are outstanding, they're like primitive! I'm so bored with the new games. Holographics and all of that. It's why lately I've been hooked on this old-school stuff. It's like bank, you know? But, I'm totally into it. Back then, this was all you needed. 2D graphics and five buttons. Same deal with hackers. You can hack into major systems in a heartbeat. Take Captain Crunch... Broke into the national phone system with a plastic whistle! Took him straight into the history books! But these days, we're dealing with micro pulse protection systems. It's harsh man, that's why I owe you big time for making this happen. Seriously, I had to try it out just once: Being a real terrorist on me!
~ Lee Sampson on his terroristic ideals.

Lee Sampson is the secondary antagonist of Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' On Heaven's Door. He is a teenage hacker who strives to become "a real terrorist". Eventually, he meets Vincent Volaju, and joins him in his plans of wiping out all life on Mars.

He was voiced in Japanese by Yūji Ueda, and by Dave Wittenberg in the English dub.

What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]

  • Lee's sole motivation in joining Vincent Volaju's plan to eliminate all life on Mars is For the Evulz sadism and a desire to be a "real terrorist".
  • Aids Vincent in releasing biotoxins into Mars's atmosphere, resulting in the deaths of dozens.
  • Shows virtually no concern about human life when he coldly shrugs off the death of a security guard Vincent shot.
  • Though he does have comedic moments, they are not detracting as they just show more of his childish, yet sociopathic nature.
  • He shows no remorse for his crimes and his last words are just him lamenting how he never got enough points on his video game.
  • Though he does seem to be somewhat grateful to help Vincent in his plans, it was most likely because he was finally able to become a terrorist thanks to him. Not much seems to indicate he had any care or loyalty to Vincent at all.
  • Compared to the other Cowboy Bebop villains, Lee has no sympathetic, tragic, or even remotely likable or cool traits to speak of, instead being a psychopathic teenager who uses somebody's plan as an opportunity to indulge in sadism, making his monstrous actions hit far more on a visceral level compared to even the worst acts from the other villains.
    • His death at the hands of Vincent, while gruesome and painful and clearly due to no longer being of any use to Vincent, is 100% justified due to Lee's willingness to participate in such a horrifying terrorist attack in the first place, showing how he lives for nothing more than pure destruction, carnage and death.

Trivia[]
