Leviticus Cornwall is the overarching antagonist of the 2018 video game Red Dead Redemption II. He is a wealthy industrialist in New Hanover and its adjacent states, as well as a financial supporter of the Pinkerton Detective Agency.
He was portrayed by John Rue.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- He forced the people of Annesburg (and thousands of people) to work to death in their mines, completely destroying the town and being the reason why it is so polluted in the game.
- He contacted Colonel Henry Favours and the United States Army to expel the Wapiti Indians from their lands, which they say are rich in oil. This makes Cornwall responsible for the war between the army and the Indians, which ended in the death’s of many.
- He supported Alberto Fussar's regime in Guarma, helping him to build sugar plantations and forced its residents to work there, turning Guarma into a dictatorship.
- He is the one who hired the Pinkerton Detective Agency to pursue the Van der Linde gang after they robbed one of his trains, with makes him inderectly responsible for nearly all the tragedies the gang faced from that point on.
- He had his men hold John Marston and Leopold Strauss as hostages for Dutch Van der Linde to come out.
- When one of his men tells him that people feel, Leviticus gets angry with him and tells him that feelings do not matter in the business, demonstrating his lack of empathy and his lack of respect for his men.
- His relationship with Andrew Milton is purely professional, as Cornwall explicitly tells him that they are not friends and is even angry with him when Milton told Cornwall that they are doing everything possible within the limits of the law.
- He is implied to have burned down a rival oil derrick in New Hanover, killing the owner Varley, as a letter from Cornwall Kerosene & Tar can be looted from Varley's charred corpse requesting that Varley give Cornwall the derrick. Which shows his power-hunger and greed as he even takes small time oil buisnesses.
- Despite being robbed by the Van der Linde gang, he was already a robber baron and bad person beforehand, subverting his tragedy. Even Dutch stated he can choose who he kill and rob, while Cornwall destroys everything in his path. When this is being pointed out to him, he hypocritically says he never did a thing like that.
- While his death caused a lot of problems for the gang, it wasn't played for sympathy, as he smugly mocked and laughed at Dutch when he threatened to kill him.
- Even after his death, his actions were indirectly responsible for the dissolution of the gang, as it caused the Pinkerton’s (one of them includes Micah Bell) to become increasingly aggressive against the gang, as well as the expulsion of the Indians from their lands.
