Lionel Starkweather is the main antagonist of the original Manhunt.
Why Do We Hate Him?[]
- While Carcer City is a terrible place to live in, Lionel Starkweather is still the city’s worst resident. Not least due to him being a big part of the city’s corruption. (Mr. Nasty and Gary Schaffer also played a role, but not as much.)
- He allows the five different Carcer gangs to do whatever they want in the city, though to ensure his films are a success he instructs them not to fight each other.
- While comedic in nature, he’s still meant to be taken seriously as a character.
- He is a horrendous employer, who indirectly kills his own employees (specifically, the gangs roaming Carcer City) for fun, aside from the profit it gives him.
- He was once a former movie director but his career eventually died. But it ultimately doesn’t excuse his actions in the present.
- He decided to start making snuff movies. And he only works with Mr. Nasty because it’s convenient for him.
- He continued his snuff movies even after getting his revenge on the people who killed his career.
- One of his movie stars (Piggsy) was driven insane after starring in too many snuff movies, and was then used to dispose of the bodies of his victims.
- While he saved James Earl Cash from execution, it was only to make him a star of another snuff movie.
- He decided to raise the stakes by endangering Cash’s family.
- He decided to have Cash’s family be killed because they decided not to show up for Cash’s execution.
- He reneges on his deal that Cash could earn his freedom if he starred in his movie.
- There’s no indication that he showed empathy when Piggsy escaped and started killing his security, though he instructed his men to more or less shoot Piggsy on sight (as well as Cash, assuming he wouldn’t star in a sequel to Manhunt).
- He had some of his old Vinewood cinema associates kidnapped and murdered for snuff films after blaming them for his "tragedy", which in reality was just his career as a director going downhill and him being petty about it.
