NOTE: This version is only Hate Sink in the Happy Death Day film as her sequel counterpart does not qualify since she has redeemable qualities.

Lori Spengler the main antagonist of the 2017 horror comedy Happy Death Day. She is the roommate of the film's protagonist, Theresa "Tree" Gelbman, whom she desired to kill (as The Bayfield Babyface Killer) for having an affair with Lori's love interest Dr. Gregory Butler.

She was portrayed by Ruby Modine in her first villainous role. In costume scenes as Babyface were portrayed by Andy Dylan.

What Makes Her a Hate Sink?[]

  • Although Tree was rude to Lori during her time as her roommate, this not only doesn't excuse her killing of her, but even after Tree apologized for being mean and wanted to start again, Lori still poisoned her with a cupcake anyway.
  • She killed Tree and serval other people for a petty reason: because Tree was having an affair with the professor, and Lori was angry that he wasn't sleeping with her anymore instead. This is even pointed out how stupid that is in universe.
  • She released a serial killer into the public to make it look like he murdered Tree. Said murderer (John Tombs) had already killed serval innocent woman, meaning that Lori also endangered the life of others on the campus as well.
  • She kills other people as well, including Gregory for sleeping with Tree (who Lori claimed to have liked), and even a police officer likely to hide the evidence.
  • She clearly takes pleasure in tormenting Tree, as evident with how she uses scare tactics such as turning the tv off when Tree thinks she's alone, wears a creepy mask even when no-one else is around, and purposely takes her time to build up her killing (such as dropping a candle on car oil from a distance away while she's trapped in a car, knowing it will take a while for the flame to get to the vehicle).
  • She calls Tree a Slut for sleeping with Gregory, although she shouldn't have been due to his marriage (something Tree eventually realizes). Lori is no better in that regard since she knew that he was married as well (not to mention is a hypocrite for pretending to be morally superior to Tree for being with a married man).
  • Although this is a comedy movie, very rarely are her actions played for laughs.
  • Once the truth is revealed, she almost immediately starts saying nasty things to Tree.

Triva[]

  • Only her main universe version is a hate sink, as the counterpart introduced in the sequel is shown to not only not have been behind the murders, but is actually kind and takes responsibility for being with Gregory.
  • Despite her status as a hate sink, she's probably the least vile of the three main villains these movies have had.
