MOTHER is the main antagonist of the Five Nights at Treasure Island fan game series.
She is a mysterious silhouette resembling a completely black version of Mickey Mouse that wanders around the abandoned Treasure Island resort, stalking and trying to kill anyone who enters. Unlike the other toons, MOTHER relies on distraction and hallucinations to attack her enemies. In the final boss of Oblitus Casa, she takes on the physical form of MickMick to get revenge on Jake for Hourglass's incineration.
i.M.Hoshi voices in Five Nights at Treasure Island, and Alexia Crystal in Oblitus Casa. Her MickMick identity is voiced by both Malrat_ and Alexia Crystal.
What Makes Her a Hate Sink?[]
- First of all, she has no entertaining features or comedic moments at all, even as a creation of Radiance Team, a typically humor-oriented indie organization. Even in their joke images, she hardly appears in them, likely because director Nocturnum hates her as well. MOTHER is basically nothing more than a self-indulgent, loathsome psychopath claiming to love her subordinates when she really feels nothing of the sort and only really cares about maintaining her control over Discovery Island, being willing to kill anyone who gets in the way in order to do so. The other villains at least have impressive features and have some degree of tragedy behind them, especially Undying, but MOTHER has none of these features, and her final speech is depicted in the most egotistical and self-centered manner possible.
- As the main antagonist of the series, she is depicted with no real motives behind her villainy. She's just a murderer because she wants to be and doesn't care for her subordinates, in fact being willing to kill them off as shown in Oblitus Casa 2.0. The fact that she took control of their lives against their will and forced them into becoming Hourglass as a last resort shows that she's no more than a control freak. In prior versions, she is at least an extremist because the characters were suits and likely possessed. The toons, on the other hand, are basically invincible drawings that don't need to be controlled by anyone. MOTHER's only reason for doing so is for personal gain and that's it.
- Her being retconned as being responsible for all prior versions of Five Nights at Treasure Island in the official sequel in accordance with Henry Miller's speech is intended to show that she's irredeemable.
Trivia[]
- MOTHER is the only Five Nights at Treasure Island antagonist that can be considered a Hate Sink as the other antagonists are, in sharp contrast to her as their sadistic leader, too entertaining or too tragic to count as despicable. Photo-Negative Mickey himself especially can't count despite being the most predominant antagonist because of his memorable features and lack of dialogue to make him despicable enough for the viewer.
- The version of MOTHER prior to Nocturnum's rewrite for 6.0 does not count as a Hate Sink as she (GOD) is closer to an extremist than an outright terrorist like MOTHER turns out to be and is insufficiently characterized by comparison. MOTHER, on the other hand, is clearly depicted as an antagonist made to be hated.
- Despite writing her to be a detestable character, Nocturnum doesn't actually take her seriously and is as willing to joke about her character alongside the rest of the Radiance Team, which is precisely what Nocturnum does with all of his works. However, this doesn't undermine her status as a Hate Sink as her depiction in the series is clearly intended to show that he still wanted her to be depicted as completely detestable, and even with Nocturnum's constant focus on humor regarding his organization, this doesn't provide her with any likable features.
