The mother of Mafuyu Asahina is a major antagonist in Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage!.
She is a manipulative, overbearing mother who tried to raise her daughter Mafuyu into becoming a doctor, stopping her from pursuing her own dream to be a nurse, which caused Mafuyu to suppress her own emotions to please her mother's high expectations. As Mafuyu began to connect with her friends at Nightcord at 25:00, her mother tried to regain control over her life by any means necessary, culminating in Mafuyu running away from home.
She is voiced by Megumi Toyoguchi.
What Makes Her a Hate Sink?[]
- Her nice and caring demeanor is a façade, in truth being a selfish individual with a habit of guilt-tripping others into following her own point of view.
- When Mafuyu was a child, she got lost in Phoenix Wonderland but when her mother found her, she reprimanded her for causing her grief while calling her a bad girl for not obeying her, before grabbing her daughter's hand so tightly that it hurt when she got home. While they were leaving, Mafuyu saw another girl being treated more gently by her own mother when she got lost, a contrast to her own mother's unforgiving approach.
- Although Mafuyu wanted to become a nurse, she wanted her to be a doctor instead due to believing it would be better for her, forcing her to study and live up to her high expectations, leading Mafuyu to suppress her emotions and lose her own sense of self. Her influence caused Mafuyu to develop a trauma towards disappointing her mother or seeing her cry, and reached the point of suicidal ideation through wanting herself to "disappear".
- She threw away Mafuyu's synthesizer, callously telling her that she's never used it even though she did. When Mafuyu recovered the synthesizer and tried to stand up to her mother, she discouraged her by telling her to pursue her dreams only if she wouldn't regret it, causing Mafuyu to lose her confidence and become subservient to her mother once more so she wouldn't worry her.
- Although she accepted Ena's request to let Mafuyu stay at her house, she accepted because of the fame of her father Shinei Shinonome when she brought him up rather than caring about Mafuyu's wellbeing.
- After finding out about Mafuyu's connections to Nightcord at 25:00, she broke Mafuyu's laptop to stop her from communicating with her friends and restricted her from connecting with them.
- When Kanade confronted Mafuyu's mother under the assumption that she was doing what she thought was best for her daughter, she made it clear that she only cared about her own idealized image of Mafuyu rather than Mafuyu herself. Later, Kanade brought up how Mafuyu wanted to "disappear" because of her own actions, but she felt no remorse and told her she would talk to her about how she didn't need her "silly" group and that she should be a doctor, making Kanade realize how uncaring she really was.
- Upon finding out about Mafuyu's dropping grades (resulting from her paranoia towards her mother constantly invading her privacy), she tried to throw Mafuyu's phone away due to viewing it as a distraction.
- When Mafuyu confronts her mother about how she really feels, she cries crocodile tears to manipulate Mafuyu into relenting. After Mafuyu tells her about how her influence left her broken and Nightcord at 25:00 helped her find who she is, her mother snaps and tells her that giving Mafuyu a computer and musical instrument was a mistake and that only she cares about her. Even after she recovers her kind front, it is enough to make Mafuyu run away from home realizing that her mother never truly loved her.
- Even Mafuyu's father, who loved his wife and believed that she had reasons behind her actions, understood how much pain she brought to their daughter, to the point of helping pack Mafuyu's belongings and asking for Kanade to take care of her for a longer time.
- Unlike other overbearing parents in the series, such as Shinei and Toya's father Harumichi whom were able to change their opinions towards their children, Mafuyu's mother is not treated sympathetically and is only seen as a negative influence, and any justification for her actions is undermined by her own selfishness and desiring Mafuyu to be her ideal daughter rather than understanding what she wants, even after seeing how much she has suffered as a result of her actions, making her personally cruel to Mafuyu as in how the male students A and C were towards Mizuki and Ena.
