Magnus McGilded (Cosney Megundal in Japanese) is the main antagonist in the 2015 game The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures. He serves as the defendant for the third case and later a posthumous character in the fifth case. Apparently a kindly philanthropist, it's later revealed he's more sinister and evil then he first appears.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- He's a loan shark who put several people in debts that they can't repay, pretending to be a benevolent and honest businessman.
- While he does give money to charity and sponsor parks, that's only to have a good public image, not out of the goodness of his heart.
- He's secretly working with Ashley Graydon to steal and sell government secrets, showing he has no loyalty to his own country.
- He killed Mason Milverton, Graydon's father, just because Milverton asked him for more money.
- When Gina Lestrade witnessed the killing, he blackmailed her to commit perjury by threatening to chase her gang of urchins out of the east end.
- He tricks Naruhodo and Susato into doing his defense. When Naruhodo realizes his true nature, it's too late to change the Not Guilty verdict.
- He bribes witnesses and manipulates evidence during his trial to get a wrongful acquittal. He then smugly cheers after seemingly escaping justice, only to later be killed by Graydon.
- While the other main villain of the game (Ashley Graydon) has a sympathetic backstory of growing up poor, McGilded has no real excuses for his cruel behavior other than being lightly implied to be a victim of the Great Potato Famine.
