Malchior is a villain in Teen Titans, who appears primarily in the episode “Spellbound”. While it is not obvious he is a villain at first, it is easy to hate him upon a second viewing, as the audience understood his true nature by then.
Why makes him Hate Sink?[]
- At first glance, he was a dream come true for Raven, as he was somebody who she could talk to. But in reality, he was her nightmare.
- While it can be considered funny when he is accidentally injured by Raven, the comedy does not last.
- He lies about being a benevolent wizard when he has terrible intentions. Though dragons are not necessarily evil.
- While he gives Raven a gift (a flower), real world predators do give their victims gifts, and it’s not the same as showing someone true affection.
- He led Raven to believe that he loved her. But in reality, he did not care about her at all.
- While this was not necessarily his intention, he caused Raven to be isolated from her friends, and it’s unlikely he regrets that. And this is the case with real world online predators.
- He makes it clear that he’s going to kill Raven after he is freed, though Raven seals him away once more before this can happen.
Trivia[]
- As noted above, he is based off of real world internet predators. He uses similar tactics to one to persuade Raven to release him from his book (pretending to love her, and hiding his true appearance), which works. Unfortunately, stories involving internet predators do not always have happy endings, though it is possible for internet predators to be brought to justice.
- He is similar to Lahmu from Shin Megami Tensei V, as they both use a girl to get what they want. Though while Malchior didn’t actually feel anything for Raven, Lahmu had a lustful obsession with his partner.
