Male Students A and C are minor antagonists in Project Sekai/Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage, appearing in the Event Story Where Does the Path of Thorns Go? and the 3rd anniversary short Journey to Bloom 『SELF』. They are a pair of male students from Mizuki Akiyama's class, Class 2-B who outed Mizuki in front of her fellow schoolmate and Nightcord at 25:00 group member Ena Shinonome.
Student A is voiced by a Shotaro Uzawa, while student C is voiced by Yūki Inoue.
What Makes Them Hate Sinks?[]
In General[]
- Their outing of Mizuki at Ena drove Mizuki to disappear and becoming a paranoid woman believing that her friends were only being nice to her out of pity, just as she is about to have the determination to come out to Ena.
- Due to her severe mental trauma from being outed as well as being heavily bullied due to her being a gender-non-conforming assigned male at birth, Mizuki goes to hiding away in the Empty Sekai away from the real world, temporarily disappearing from area conversations there, and her Live2D models in the menus would have her lose the light in her eyes and speaking in a creepy monotone. The player will be warned of those changes beforehand if they ever try to open the final chapter in Where Does the Path of Thorns Go? for the first time on their profile.
- This would lead to Mizuki again devolving back to her old behaviour of hiding her problems to others when she cuts off Ena believing that she was only being kind to her out of pity in a fit of shame and fear.
Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage[]
- In Journey to Bloom 『Self』, Student A immediately asks Mizuki why they dress like a man in school, only to be dismissed with Mizuki saying that she "prefers to dress as she likes to,” knowing how obvious their claim was.
- On the rooftop, they referred to Mizuki Akiyama indirectly as a guy and outed her as assigned male at birth, even when Student B warned them to stop talking like that, with Student C using the excuse that it’s true.
- They resorted to doing this right in front of Ena, Mizuki’s school mate and fellow unit member and the very person she was gonna come out to, leading to them being chewed out by B for “scaring her” through “jumping into a conversation like that,” giving them some personal level of meanness to Ena herself.
- When Student A dismissed B with the excuse that it is during the cultural festival, he asks Ena if she was a boy, mistaking her for Mizuki, with the excuse it was a joke, to which Ena responded adding that it wasn’t funny.
- A then pretends to apologise believing she is a “normal girl,” to which C follows up only to be hushed by B. A replies, saying that if they’ve known each other for a long time, he'd think she would know. Mizuki overhears the conversation and decides to run back to the school corridors upset knowing that the secret got disclosed to Ena before she could tell her her side of the story, which is one of the few times characters' Live2D models were actually shown backwards, specifically Mizuki's.
Trivia[]
- To drive the point of the students A and C being Hate Sinks home, Mizuki's voice actor Hinata Satō, who frequently tweets about the progress of her voice acting as Mizuki, claimed that the recording of the event was so painful for her and cried after she finished her recording.
- Their actions are exagerated for drama, gender discrimination not being an issue in Japan.
