Please don't do anything as foolish as to look for revenge. Revenge only breeds further revenge. If you, Mr. Naofumi, could bear to show mercy, then I'm sure the queen would be grateful.
~ Malty pathetically begging for Naofumi's forgiveness after everything that she'd done (only to be refused said forgiveness).

Former Princess Malty S. Melromarc, later known by the fitting title of "Bitch" and formerly known as Myne Sophia, is the main antagonist of The Rising of The Shield Hero franchise. She is also Melty Q. Melromarc's older sister, the Kingdom of Melromarc's former first princess, as well as Mirellia and Aultcray's daughter. Due to her personal villainy towards Naofumi Iwatani, she serves as his arch nemesis.

In Japanese, she is voiced by Sarah Emi Bridcutt and by Faye Mata (who also voiced Katie Killjoy in the Hazbin Hotel pilot) in the English dub.

What Makes Her a Hate Sink[]

  • Years before the story began, she had her own brother poisoned and killed to prevent an alliance with Siltvelt, and she got away with it due to the lack of evidence.
  • After manipulating Naofumi, Malty ruins his reputation by making a false rape accusation against him.
  • During a match between Naofumi and Motoyasu, she uses her magic to cheat making Naofumi lose the match while also giving Motoyasu the win.
  • She heavily taxed a village that was recovering from the Last Wave's attack.
  • Without caring about the consequences, Malty helped Motoyasu give a demon seed that grew into a monstrous plant creature that devastated a village.
  • She ordered her knights attempt to have her younger sister, Melty, killed and recorded Naofumi's rescue attempt to in order to frame him. Later the footage capture was heinously edited to make it look like Naofumi slaughtered the soldiers and kidnapped Melty instead of what truly transpired.
  • She played the altered footage in front of a crowd making Naofumi and his team look like criminals who kidnapped Melty.
  • She attempted to kill Melty under the pretense of "defending herself."
  • Proving that she didn't care about the consequences, she sets fire to a forest which Melty escaped into that would've led to the destruction of an entire village when she tried to kill Melty.
  • She manipulated Motoyasu into thinking that Naofumi killed Ren and Itsuki.
  • She refused to repent for her crimes after she and her father's lies were exposed.
  • She attempted to kill Naofumi by poisoning a pie that was going to be sent to his party's table.
  • She sold Motoyasu's team members, one of them being Rino, into sex slavery so she could manipulate him without interference, dooming them to fates worse than death.
  • During the battle with the Spirit Tortoise, Malty abandoned Motoyasu.
  • She manipulated Ren and Itsuki before betraying and robbing the both of them.
  • She would manipulate the Whip Hero known as Tact Arusahorun Faubley so that he could murder Atla Fayon, her own cousin, and Mirellia Q. Melromarc, her own mother (who are both more loved and adored by the fans in comparison to Malty).
  • Her death at the sword of Rino was played for satisfaction and karma rather than sympathy, but her soul remained intact so she could always come back.

Trivia[]

  • Her actions and behavior made her the easily most hated character in The Rising of the Shield Hero, more hated than other vile villains like Idol Rabier and the King of Faubley, to the point where even her English voice actress Faye Mata commented that she outright hated the character in addition to how difficult it was to voice her. Faye also hates the character because sadly, people would go on to harass and hate her just for voicing the character.
  • If anything, her false rape accusation earned a lot of scorn and backlash from many viewers and the audiences alike since the first episode of the series debuted.
  • Mata (Malty's English voice actress) herself has referred to her as the "King Joffrey of anime" during an interview.
