Mari Suzuki is the posthumous main antagonist of What She Did.
She was the older sister of Sunny Suzuki, who groomed him into having a predatory relationship with her before sexually abusing him repeatedly. Even after dying in a car accident, her abuse towards Sunny left him traumatized until he mustered up the courage to tell his friends the truth about her mistreatment towards him that lasted for all those years.
What makes her a Hate Sink?[]
- Her character is a stark contrast to her original counterpart, whom was loving towards her brother and kind towards her friends, while this version is cruel and unsympathetic towards others.
- She was such a perfectionist that she refused to tolerate Sunny making even the smallest mistake, and always pushed him to the limit.
- Since he was 12, she groomed Sunny into believing sexual relationships between siblings were normal, and repeatedly raped him since he was 16 for her own sadistic pleasure, conditioning him into believing her actions were out of love and that he should keep her actions a secret from everyone.
- She threatened to expose Rowan's homosexuality to the whole of Faraway if he told anyone about what she did, knowing the homophobic citizens would ostracize him and accuse him of raping Sunny, boasting about her popularity compared to him and insulting him with a homophobic slur.
- Once Hero, Kel and Aubrey find out the truth about Mari, they react with disgust and horror, with Hero burning all of his memories with her and Aubrey trying to smash the bat she owned.
- Due to dying from a car accident and having the town still believing in her good image, she hardly faces any justice towards her crimes in the end, aside from Sunny being able to heal from her influence with the help of his friends.
Trivia[]
- She is based on Hands' version of Mari, and is the third fanmade version of Mari to be a Hate Sink after the versions from Hands and False Heaven.
