Mero, nicknamed the Titan's Bastard, is a minor antagonist in the A Song of Ice and Fire novel series and its television adaptation Game of Thrones.
He is the Braavosi commander of the Second Sons, a sellsword company. Despite his superficial friendliness, Mero is a serial rapist with a cruel reputation, and under his leadership, the company is rarely hired by anyone. he was portrayed by Mark Killeen.
What Makes Him Hated?[]
- He has an evil reputation across the Free Cities, known as a short-tempered and cruel killer and rapist. His brutal leadership tarnished the reputation of the Second Sons as a company and made it hard for them to find work under his command. While the Second Sons are historically an old and good company, Mero's leadership turned them into an unsavory one and as nearly as bad as the infamous Brave Companions, who are regarded as the first worst sellsword company in the world. This is why none of the Free Cities would hire the Second Sons, and why they ended up working for Yunkai.
- When Daenerys Targaryen invites him and the captains of the Stormcrows to a parley to convince them to join their side, he only acts amiable and friendly, while mocking her and trading insults with her at the same time, dismissing her offers and not acting diplomatically like the captain Prendahl na Ghezn.
- Throughout the meeting, he mocks Daenerys and repeatedly makes vulgar and sexual remarks about her body. He also suggests that after her army is defeated she and all her followers will be enslaved, and he will rape Daenerys, while commenting he will "share her" with his men.
- In the TV series, he also spanks Missandei's bottom without flinching.
- He was so disrespectful that Grey Worm suggested stopping the meeting in the middle, and Daenerys told Ser Barristan Selmy to kill him when the time of battle comes, which he gladly accepted.
Exclusive to the TV Series[]
- In the TV series, he decides alongside Prendahl na Ghezn to assassinate Daenerys by choosing one captain to do it.
- When fate falls on Daario Naharis and he refuses to do the assassination, Mero and Prendahl try to kill him, only to be killed by Daario's own hands.
Exclusive to Novels[]
- After Yunkai is betrayed by the Stormcrows, Mero betrays his own men during the Battle Near Yunkai and flees, abandoning them and displaying cowardice. This causes the Second Sons to join Daenerys under Ben Plumm replacing Mero. Seeking to get revenge on Daenerys for making him lose his job and position, Mero shaves off his beard and hair in order to make himself unrecognizable, and joins the 60,000 refugees and liberated slaves from Yunkai and Astapor, marching with Daenerys' army of 20,000 men to Meereen.
- During the First Siege of Meereen, he tries to assassinate Daenerys only for Barristan to defeat him with a wooden stick and a mob of freedmen tearing him apart.
