Miss Hattie is the secondary antagonist of Illumination's 5th full-length animated feature film Despicable Me, the first installment of the franchise of the same name.
She is the cruel owner of the orphanage that Margo, Edith and Agnes used to live in and the owner of the cookies that they're selling to make a living.
She was voiced by Kristen Wiig.
What Makes Her a Hate Sink?[]
- She runs an orphanage that forces children where she abuses children and forces them into child labor by making them sell cookies for her. Whenever a child fails their quota for selling cookies, she puts them in the Box of Shame.
- While she only has about three minutes of total screen time, her lasting effect on the girls and her actions for what little time she has is enough for her to qualify.
- When Agnes asks her if anyone stopped by to adopt her, Margo, and Edith she coldly and angrily replies "no".
- She emotionally abuses the girls by telling them they will never be adopted after Edith shows her a mud pie, which shows that even Edith despises her behavior.
- After Margo, Edith, and Agnes did not meet their quota she starts yelling at them while also threatening them with the Box of Shame.
- When Gru comes to adopt the girls, she acts very snobbish and arrogant towards him and acts unsympathetic towards him when he claims that he has been lonely ever since his wife (who was actualyl made up) died.
- When she misunderstood Gru's unintentionally harsh remark when he said that her face looked "como un burro" (Spanish for "like a donkey"), she initially took as a compliment before looking up the definition in a lengthy Spanish dictionary and saving it to eventually smacking him in the face with it before bringing it to Gru to keep.
- After taking the girls back to the orphanage she puts them into boxes of shame for no reason
- At the end of the film, because she's never seen again after Vector kidnaps the girls, and her fate is unknown in the future films, she gets off completely scot-free, making her a Karma Houdini.
- The short Home Makeover really shows how the girls despise her as they tried to make Gru's house suitable for kids so the social worker from her orphanage won't take them back to her.
Trivia[]
- She is a parody of Dolores Umbridge, who is another hate sink in this wiki.
- Ironically, her voice actor Kristen Wigg would go on to voice the girls' future adoptive mother, Lucy Wilde.
- She is just like Mrs. Peng-Sniff from Pingu, both are abusive to three young children.
