Mongul is an antagonist from the DC Animated Universe.
What Makes Him A Hate Sink?[]
- In his first appearance, he ran his world like a dictator. He showed a lack of concern for his wellbeing of his planet's citizens, instead creating an arena to keep their mind off of their problems.
- He captures people throughout the galaxy and forces them to fight in said arena.
- He forced the arena champion Draaga into compliance by threatening to destroy his home planet.
- When Superman is captured and becomes a hopebringer for his planet after he defeats Draaga, Mongul forces him to lose to the warlord in a fight to the death or Draaga's home planet will be destroyed.
- He attempts to use his planet destroying device on what is presumed to be an inhabited planet, which would have most likely killed millions.
- His underlings are shown to dislike him, but cannot do anything to overthrow him.
- When he returns after being defeated, he traps Superman using the Black Mercy. It subjects the victim to a dream world of theirs, and the only way to escape is by giving up said desire. Superman's escape ends up causing him great pain as a result, as his home planet was destroyed and his desire was this turn of events never happening.
- When Wonder Woman uses the Black Mercy against Mongul, the sound of screaming is heard, implying that Mongul's dream world is built off of the suffering of others.
