Mr. Smitty is Rocko's boss at Kind of a Lot o' Comics on Rocko's Modern Life. He is a purplish toad with obvious hair plugs and is always seen smoking a cigar except in at least one later episode where it was apparently censored. He seems to either fire Rocko or make his job difficult in almost every episode he appears in, and is even rude to his customers. Rocko often refers to Mr. Smitty as "a smoldering old toad," and is the only character in the series that Rocko openly dislikes.
His tyrannical, aggressive nature and short temper are apparently the result of "the green button" on his office chair; In the episode Power Trip, Rocko is temporarily appointed manager of the comic store and, after pressing "the green button" his personality changes to match Mr. Smitty's and he, in turn, is mean spirited towards Filburt, who was filling in for Rocko.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- He treats Rocko horribly and has a bad temper.
- In the episode "Day of the Flecko" (which is arguably the worst offender of his behavior), he got angry at Rocko for one little error on a comic and made him spend the entire night at work fixing all of them.
- This also comes off as extremely unjust because Rocko himself had NOTHING to do with that error, yet gets blamed over a misprint made by the comic artists (especially considering that, sometimes, off-models can happen).
- In "Power Trip", after he returns from getting hair transplants, after learning that Rocko hired Filburt as an assistant, Mr. Smitty orders Rocko to fire him, despite having told Rocko to hire an assistant to keep the place running before he left. When Rocko refuses and points out how much money the two of the made, Mr. Smitty fires both him and Filburt.
- Whenever you think he's a fair boss deep down, it's only a ploy for him to revert back to his cruel self, with "Commuted Sentence" used as an example (see below).
- He was at his absolute worst in "Commuted Sentence" because, sure, it's understandable why he got angry at Rocko for being late, but what's really upsetting is that the one time Rocko finally gets to work on time, he fires him anyway.
- With the exception of "Commuted Sentence", he never got punished for his actions and became a Karma Houdini.
- He's even nastier than Ed Bighead, who at least has a heart of gold especially in the tv movie.
