Mildred Pearl "Mertle" Edmonds is the recurring antagonist of Lilo & Stitch series and serves as the main antagonist of Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch. She is a spoiled rich girl and one of the girls to bully Lilo.
She is voiced by Miranda Paige Walls in the first film and currently Liliana Mumy.
What Makes Her a Hate Sink?[]
In General[]
- She's very cruel to Lilo, even for the pettiest of reasons. Her first appearance went as far as to drive Lilo to suicidal depression, and when she's at her worst, she's an outright villain wanting to murder Lilo out of spite.
- She constantly nicknames Lilo "Weirdlo" and "Freaklo".
- Despite that she would gleefully insult Lilo many times, but when the two get into a physical altercation, Mertle would always be on the losing side.
- She is a massive hypocrite as she hates Lilo and the aliens for being weird, but is apparently not above working with them for her own benefit. She also even adopts Hämsterviel at one point, who's made no attempts to hide his origins or the fact that he can talk.
- Lilo saves her from runaway experiments on a number of occasions, but she never shows her any gratitude for it
- She pretty much only exists as an unsympathetic bully who repeatedly kicks the dog by insulting Lilo and her mother, so that viewers can root more for Lilo.
- She gets off scot-free instead of receiving any punishment at all, making her a Karma Houdini.
Background[]
- Although her father leaving her family sometime during the series is sympathetic, this does not excuse her bullying Lilo, as despite being a orphan she never bullied others for it.
Lilo and Stitch[]
- She doesn't accept Lilo's apology and even threatens to run her over.
Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch[]
- She has a giant kick-the-dog moment where she outright tells Lilo that as a dancer, she will never be anything like her late mother, which causes Lilo to very understandably beat her up.
Lilo and Stitch: The Series[]
- It's shown that her "friends" (Elena, Teresa, and Yuki) secretly dislike her, largely because of her mean and bossy attitude, despite the fact that they hang out with her instead of Lilo.
- In the episode "PJ", she frames Lilo for disrupting class.
- In "Shush", when her friends break up with her after Lilo wrongly thought she hated them, she teams up with Dr. Hämsterviel, who apparently turns her into an android in order to catch all the other experiments in place of Gantu.
Leroy & Stitch[]
- She mocks Lilo, for Stitch leaving, stating he's never coming back.
Trivia[]
- Very ironically her first name, Mildred, means "gentle strength", but she has been nothing but a mere bully to others, especially Lilo.
- Although she goes to be in the family portrait with Lilo's extended ʻohana, but insists that it's only because Gigi wanted to do it. The fact that she so specifically stated that and is later smiling in the actual photo, implies that she wanted to do it too. It seems that, ever so slowly, she's on her way to being a nicer person. However, she still thinks Lilo is weird, but seems to have accepted that, despite all this is never confirmed.
