“ | Here's what will definitely happen. You'd end up on the sex offenders list. It means no more college. It's gonna be very fucking difficult to find a job, and everywhere you go for the rest of your life, you'll be harassed, and spat at, and treated like a fucking animal. You deserve better than that. 'Cause I know you. You're kind. You're smart. You're generous. You got a big heart. You deserve whatever the fuck it is in this world that you want. So keep your head down. Keep your mouth shut. Don't try to ruin my life, and I won't have to ruin yours. | „ |

Nathaniel Jacobs, or also known as Nate Jacobs, is the main antagonist of the HBO series Euphoria. He serves as one of the two main antagonists in the first and second season with the other main villains, his father Cal Jacobs and Cassie Howard, respectively.
He was an East Highland High School jock and the star quarterback of his football team, later revealing to be an abusive and sociopath ex-boyfriend towards Maddy Perez and Cassie Howard. He displays selfishness and toxicity towards other high school students, and takes desperate measures against anyone who hates or messes with him, also for his own benefit. Finally, he also prefers his lover's feminine appearance, so that he wouldn't become like his father.
He is currently portrayed by Jacob Elordi, while Gabriel Golub portrayed him as an eleven-year old child.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
Pre-Euphoria[]
- As a young boy, he decided and continued to watch all of his father's sex tapes throughout his development as a current high-school teen, rather than reporting these tapes to his parents or look away.
- Rue mentioned that he tried to finger her without her consent on the freshman dance floor
Season 1[]
- He decided to harass Rue and Jules on their way to school, given to Chris McKay's dismay.
- Nearly attacked Jules at McKay's party.
- Makes misogynistic remarks about Cassie.
- He beats Tyler Clarkson up (and almost murdering him) for having consensual intercourse with Maddy, even to insisting that Tyler sexually assaulted her under the influence, and unaware that Maddy lied to him about that situation.
- After injuring Tyler, he even used his shower to wash off the blood from punching him repeatedly, took his clean clothes and threatened to report him to the police.
- He posed as a Grindr catfish account (namely his blackmailee Tyler and ShyGuy118) to charm Jules and for her to distribute her nude photos to, which he later utilizes as leverage against Jules for hooking up with his father Cal. Even though he did this to protect his father from exposure as a predator until the end of Season 2, he still took extreme lengths to irreversibly ruin someone else's life with him, had they not obeyed his orders.
- He even ordered Jules to accuse the real Tyler of assaulting Maddy, choosing the ultimatum to incarcerate him rather than Nate.
- Chokes Maddy in anger and later blackmailed Jules and Tyler to frame the latter for the crime.
- Forcefully grabbed Maddy by the face and threatened her.
- He contacted federal law enforcement on Fezco and Ashtray, just because the former decided to protect Rue and Jules from him. Beforehand, he insulted Fezco for being a drug dealer before leaving, calling him "half a r*tard".
- This action deliberately caused Fezco's returning favor against Nate by assaulting him during the New Year's Eve party in Season 2.
Season 2[]
- Although not abusive to Cassie like he was with Maddy, he’s still manipulative in the relationship.
- Breaks into Maddy’s house and holds her at gun point while playing Russian roulette, even forcefully kissing her (which makes him a massive hypocrite, as he supposedly beat Tyler for seemingly assaulting her).
- Even though his action of turning his father Cal in to the police was somewhat positively intentional, given ultimately to what he did to others (especially Jules), it was only out of revenge for what his father did to him and not through justice. And although some people constitute this as a redeemable act, it's still overwhelmingly shunned by the despicable actions he caused against everyone else.
- He is essentially a Karma Houdini, who never got caught by the authorities. Even if there are many random yet deserved cathartic moments that remedy everyone due to his horrible actions, he never took any full responsibility, yet punished for them.
Trivia[]
- To cement his status as a Hate Sink, even the character's actor, Jacob Elordi, hated him as much as everyone did. Elordi stated in an interview with Jimmy Fallon that he "would love to beat him up", as Jacob himself.
- Even having his status cemented, it may still be affected in the third and upcoming season of Euphoria, given his continued sociopath behavior in the second season since the pilot episode.
