Neil Hargrove is a minor yet pivotal antagonist in Stranger Things, being responsible for his son Billy's behavior throughout the series and also abusing the rest of his family.
He is played by Will Chase.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- He has abused Billy since he was a child, which turned him into the bully he is today. Even if he just wants to make him more masculine from a young age, that's still a mere delusion, and delusions have been known for enriching Hate Sinks significantly.
- Berated Billy when he was surfing at California beach.
- Argued with Billy's mom when she was trying to support him, causing their divorce.
- Is a racist and sexist person in general, also making sure Billy becomes this.
- It's heavily implied that he abused Max and her mother Susan.
- Beat Billy up when he was going out on a date.
- Insulted Billy with homophobic slurs.
- After Billy's death, instead of supporting his remaining family, Neil divorced Susan and left Hawkins, making her work 2 jobs to support herself and Max. Not to mention that he was indirectly responsible for Billy's death, and this eventually led to the deaths of Eddie Munson, Jason Carver and 21 more people, the hospitalization of Max Mayfield, the downfall of Hawkins and the near destruction of Earth and all of mankind.
- Is basically a Karma Houdini, facing no repercussions for his terrible actions.
