Nigun Grid Luin is a character of the Overlord series serving as the main antagonist of the Undead King Arc.
He was voiced by Takehito Koyasu in Japanese and dubbed by Phil Parsons in the English version.
What Makes him Despicable?[]
- According to the Blue Rose, he led raids to massacre many demi-human villages out of human supremacy.
- While he had very few "Evil is Cool" moments such as him summoning the Dominion Authority, he spent nearly all of his appearance as unlikeable, meaning it doesn't distract his Hate Sink status.
- He lured out Gazef Stronoff by having his men raid multiple villages, killing many innocent lives.
- When he seemingly had Gazef Stronoff at his mercy, he taunted him to lie down and die like a dog, and he would die leaving the villagers unprotected.
- In the English Dub of the Anime, he takes it up a step further by saying he will massacre all the people of Carne Village after he kills Gazef, meaning he would massacre innocents even after getting what he wants out of sadism.
- While it was due to Ainz Ooal Gown being unknown at the time and people not seeing his power, he underestimated Ainz more than most other villains even when he showed his power on display.
- He pridefully thought the Dominion Authority scared Ainz until he said it disappointed him, enraging him in arrogance, declaring no one can survive from it and ordered the angel to attack Ainz out of sheer arrogance. While Ainz survived it's attack with only minor pain it enraged Albedo to nearly lash out which is justified for karma.
- When Ainz destroyed the Dominion Authority, his trump card, he cowardly tried to save himself by using his position in the Sunset Scripture to spare himself while throwing his men under the bus to die, though Ainz and Albedo rejected that offer for his actions and him being not useful enough to be spared.
- While he seemingly got killed by Ainz and Albedo in the Anime after being defeated, his fate was much worse in the LN and Manga as he was tortured by Neuronist Painkill brutally to be interrogated until he died from the shock, which is not played for sympathy.
- His attack on Carne Village would later have consequences as while it was Barbro Andrean Ield Ryle Vaiself's actions that finally led to Carne Village defecting from Re-Estate to the Sorcerer Kingdom, he was just as guilty as his attack made Ainz Ooal Gown a hero to the citizens of the village as he came in their time of need, unlike their home kingdom who did absolutely nothing (save for Gazef Stronoff protecting the village, but he was only ordered to stop the raiders, and Gazef protected it on his free will, not the kingdom's) when they pleaded for help in time of need, while Ainz Ooal Gown protected the village under his name (though for pragmatic reasons, Ainz had some soft spot "Pet the Dog' moments for some of its inhabitants like Enri, Nefia, and Nemu) which won the village over to him.
Trivia[]
- The Anime Dub makes him more detestable by making him sound more cowardly and heartless as stated above by having him say he will massacre the people of Carne Village instead of simply taunting Gazef Stronoff that his death will leave the villagers defenseless.
