| ~ Nizam to Dastan |
Nizam is the main antagonist of the 2010 Live-Action Disney Film Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.
He is played by Sir Ben Kingsley.
What Makes him Hateable?[]
- Nizam’s villainy is cemented when he murders his own brother, King Sharaman, using poison on the royal robe and deliberately framing Dastan for the crime. The scene is especially detestable because Nizam watches events unfold from the shadows, allowing his nephew to be falsely accused and hunted while he maintains the façade of a grieving, concerned uncle.
- Throughout the early palace scenes, Nizam presents himself as a benevolent scholar and advisor, openly praising Dastan and acting as a stabilizing voice at court. This makes the later reveal of his betrayal more loathsome, as he deliberately cultivates trust—particularly from Dastan—only to weaponize it for his own ascent to power.
- Nizam orchestrates the assassination attempt using Hassansin assassins, never dirtying his own hands. In the ambush scene in the desert, he allows others to die in service of his plan while he remains safely removed, reinforcing his cowardly reliance on expendable pawns.
- He is hypocritical, as he repeatedly speaks about fate, wisdom, and patience, yet his plan is fueled by resentment and jealousy over not becoming king.
- Nizam views Sharaman’s kingship as a mistake that only he can correct. His monologue reveals he believes destiny itself owes him the throne, making his tyranny feel self-justified rather than reluctant
- Nizam’s downfall is fittingly humiliating after manipulating time and lives for his gain, he is killed by Dastan in the reset timeline, denied the grand destiny he felt entitled to.
