~ Osborn mocking Captain America about the Skrull genocide shortly before dying. |
Norman Osborn is the villainous protagonist in What If? Secret Invasion. He impersonates Iron Man in his own agenda to wipe out every single Skrull on Earth.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- He hires Marvel Boy to suicide-attack just under 100 people at a Skrull conversion temple, even framing it on Wakanda.
- He commits a global genocide against not just the Skrulls but also human converts with Skrull DNA, thus killing billions of people, including Spider-Man's Aunt May as well as Osborn's own wife, Queen Veranke.
- Even worse, due to manipulating Spider-Man and Thor into helping him achieve this goal, Osborn was able to indirectly frame the Avengers for said genocide right after he was already killed for his actions.
- Due to the billions of innocent lives he claimed, his death at the hands of Captain America is played for pure satisfaction.
- Overall, his claims of being a hero by stopping the Skrull invasion don't really have a leg to stand on. Not only are the Skrulls portrayed in-universe as a passive species that only resorts to violence in self-defense, he could've easily inoculated any human converts just as he did himself but simply chose not to. He only did what he did because he's a xenophobic Knight Templar against aliens, and ironically enough he calls the Skrulls "green-blooded bastards" despite having once been the Green Goblin.
