Offshore Prison Warden is a minor antagonist of Avatar: The Last Airbender, serving as a main antagonist of Book One: Water episode "Imprisoned".
He is voiced by George Takei.
Why is he a Hate Sink?[]
- Unlike most Avatar villains, this guy has no backstory at all to avoid humanizing him or establishing Evil is Cool factors.
- Likewise, his real name is kept anonymous for the same reason.
- He's taken as seriously as humanly possible and has no redeeming qualities at all.
- When Ozai became Fire Lord, the warden and his troops fought ruthlessly even with guaranteed victory.
- Treats his prisoners totally coldly and even throws one into the solitary brig for imagined insubordination.
- Throws his captain overboard, whom he rudely interrupts during a conversation, for the same reason.
- While good at keeping prisoners and guards in line, this fails when Team Avatar arrives with their intellect, grit and strength, using the mined coal and their charisma to inspire the Earth Benders to help them defeat the Warden and his minions.
- He got what he deserved, and his defeat is played for satisfaction for his racism and attempts to silence guilty and innocent alike.
- He proves with his protests he can’t swim to be a complete coward as despite everything he had done to the prisoners, he still shows the nerve to beg them for mercy. As such, him being denied it without question makes it even more satisfying.
